Almost into the realms of impulse purchase, (I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Out Run), but I've been playing it emulated in MAME forever and I bought the SEGA AGES pack for my Saturn that had this in it (along with Space Harrier and After Burner), and I'm sure I've played it on other formats over the years too.
Have you played it on the 3DS? That's a great version. Also, if you're a fan of racing games and 60 frames per second, you should check out the Japanese version of Outrun on the Saturn. It's silky smooth once you put a code in and great with the Saturn racing wheel.
How do you connect your consoles to your TV, (er...) TV? Do you keep a CRT handy for the light gun games?

I have an LG something or other.. It's not as big or as new as I could get, but I'm keeping it as it has a load of inputs including (amongst others) 3 HDMI, S Video and a couple of scarts. It also works with my Dreamcast VGA adaptor which is brilliant!

I have a manual Scart switcher too with another 5 inputs on it and most of my older consoles are plugged into that.

I don't have a CRT here but I do in my parents loft. I used to have an ace Sony Trinitron but it just took up too much space for how often it was used. It's a shame, but if I really want to play a light gun game then I can normally scratch that itch with House of the Dead 2 on the Wii.
Put Outrun 2 on Switch you cowards!

HOTD2 was such an amazing Dreamcast game, me and a mate used to play it into the small hours whilst the ladies were out doing lady things. (I had two lightguns and a big (for the time!) 28 inch telly.)

Confidential Mission was a cracker too. We knew every single line of dialogue in it and riffed along with the game, doing the voices with all the intonations in the wrong places, just like the dialogue.

'Looks like the work of Agares!'

'That's how they operate!'

Point Blank was my jam, I was fucking ace at that game. I always wanted the articulated guncons from the arcade at home, I think some folks modded them to work at some point.

I had a third party gun with a pedal. The gun itself came with the recoil function. I remember it being a right clattery thing! It was great.
Mmmm House of the Dead on Xbox with lighten was the only one I had. Bloody loved it. Guess they'd be prime contenders for VR remakes?

I'd love that. Rush of Blood works well, if you want a modern similar sort of game. And it was free on PS+ a while back so you might already have it.
Typing Of The Dead, in VR so you can't cheat by looking at the keyboard!

Given googling for Space Cows shows some type of twin stick shooter i guess your clone game never really took off ?

** and going to the website (http://www.space-cows.co.uk) now after a really long time gives me

"Krung! say:
SELECT * FROM matches WHERE (player_a = 5 OR player_b = 5) AND current_player != 5 AND timeout_warn != 0 AND timeout_warn < 1548086358 AND won_by = 0

PVP was on the GBA games but you needed a link cable.

** Edit **

Actually it looks like you could play it on a single device and just pass it back and forward

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance_Wars

Quote:
In Multiplayer mode, players can compete against the AI or against other human players. Multiplayer matches feature a variety of settings that can be changed pre-battle. Multiplayer comes in two forms: Versus mode and Link mode. In Versus mode, only one GBA system is used, which every participant in the game uses. One person will take their turn, then pass the system to the next person. Link mode is the same game as Versus mode gameplay-wise, but multiple consoles are used, one for each person.[1] It can be played with just one game pak or with one game pak per player.
Fuck's sake, Krung!

It got a little bit popular for a while. I keep toying with rewriting it.

The existing version doesn't work, as you can see. The database is missing ;)
yes i can remember playing that once or twice...

i have a gba micro so advance wars still somesslpsin my bag... so lovely
Keep meaning to pick up an SP/Micro and Advance Wars off eBay.

A real one is good but if your not that bothered you can pick up a clone with advanced wars on it for cheap (at least cheaper than you'll get a real micro for)

https://www.retromini.com/

Expect somewhere around £25 or so on ebay (example here for £26 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/32-Bit-Porta ... :rk:2:pf:0)
My new monitor has a USB-c port for connecting laptops and mobile devices. Can I connect my Switch without a dock that way? Before I try it is it possible to damage either device?
I’ve read that it could “potentially” damage your Switch. Mind you, I charged my Switch with a portable charger when I went to Japan for a fair few hours and it’s fine. I think the lesson is, if you can shove it in the dock then you might as well shove it in the dock.

You found the same article I did? The one guy who plugged it into USB-a on his LG telly? I’m not sure it should be read as gospel.

I’ve plugged into chargers with no issue. I was wondering if it would output video and sound and act like a dock without getting a second one for upstairs.
Try it and report back. If we don’t hear from you again we’ll assume you just died in an explosion.

I'm pretty sure this won't work.

The dock connects via HDMI so at best, all your port will do is charge the Switch but again, be careful with this. I've read a few things (and possibly something from Ashens) about the Switch charger being very specific for the Switch.

Yeah, there's many reports of 3rd party docks and chargers bricking the system.

Which IMO is on Nintendo. You put a USB-C port on the damned thing, it can't self-destruct when people plug it into USB-C stuff.

This is fair but I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a warning about using third party peripherals somewhere in the Switch's user manual.

People don’t read manuals, and something as important as “not bricking your device when user does obvious thing” shouldn’t rely just on some small print. If you don’t want to test a wide range of accessories and make your console compliant with a complicated spec, use a proprietary port.
Good old Nintendo.

Agreed.
Had no problem using usb-c chargers... but wow that sucks...

That retro mini is nice.. i have a gpd xd now for most platforms on the go.. but the micro is so lovely... bought it for 30 pounds or so three years ago in the game over shop in amsterdam... but they go for weird prices sometimes
My Anker charger works fine on the switch, but thanks for the heads up anyway. I shall be careful

That's the problem - getting a decent one is getting more expensive (unless you want one that has been badly treated and scratched to f#ck) and picking up both games is also getting quite pricey (somewhere about 25-30 for both games and your looking at 50 minimum for a GBA micro)

And since its a strategy RPG your not really stuck trying to get a version on an emulator that's working with perfect timings so as long as the basics work your sorted.
oh i agree, would have been different perhaps i hadn't bought advance wars back in de day... (and hated playingg gbagames onads lite , since they stuck out)
DBSnappa wrote:

I believe the problem is that things work, until they don't.

My second flash card has this litle bottom thingy, which was nice and could play gabs well, so that was solved after some time
So I've been using my phone charger to charge my switch. Should I not be doing that then? :S

It's cheap, though, which is a major factor for indie studios.
