Last time I did I was troubled by hearing Zippy shouting "Get you twangers out!" over and over and over in my head for what seemed like hours. After a few minutes George joined in as well.

Well of course, if your brain has come to associate it with getting high, you'll come to like the revolting stench that permeates everything around it. It's like when smokers don't give a shit that they make everyone's clothes and hair smell like shit for days afterwards, because they don't notice it anymore.

Or like doritos. They smell revolting, but if you're eating them smell quite nice.
I came across the smell for the first time in Holland years before I actually tried it. In small amounts I quite like the smell, in a room that folk are smoking spliff after spliff not so much. On the other hand Doritos are rotten full stop.

Perhaps you're confusing the smell of grass with the hippies that smoke it or the Doritos they're inevitably munching? :DD

I blacked out from that, once. Woke up in the kitchen, on the floor. I'd missed an entire advert break, pleasingly. It's funny how it takes a moment to hit you. Nearly fell down the stairs because of that once, too.

Not a stoner film, but, y'know.

I was dead disappointed by Hot Fuzz. The whole premise of the film was building up to that last big over the top gunfight in a village, but that gunfight was shit. The first two thirds of the film are a good laugh, but then it just goes to utter rubbish for what's supposed to be the main draw.

Also the second time I watched it I was very ill and passed out on a friend's sofa. It was really bizarre actually, as I simply blinked and suddenly the film had skipped forward by about 80 minutes.

It was a lot better that way, actually.

Hot Fuzz didn't do anything for me either. I do maintain that comedy is very much down to being in the right mood for me. I've watched numerous purported classics and not even grinned if I'm in the wrong mood, then I've watched them again and they've made me laugh like a drain.

This just backs up my opinion (entirely subjective I know) that some films need watching more than once.

I sat in the pub that's used in that film the other week. The village is actually Wells, near Bath / Bristol.

Yeah, we went on holiday to there the year before so seeing a bunch of places we'd visited turning up in the film was weird.

Interesting article on Alien and more to do with how groundbreaking the character of Ripley was at the time.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/oct ... ien-ripley

Time to re-open that old debate of which is better. Alien or Aliens. I think the first just edges it in concept, characterisation, story and content, but the second is definitely more "exciting" when you first watch it. It's when you first become aware of the sexual imagery of the first film that on rewatching it realise every single scene with the alien ship, the alien or the crew encounters has been carefully put together to imply some kind of sexual tension.

I love both films but if I had to choose one and it would be erased from existence then it would be Alien.

Alien is a nailed on classic horror/thriller. Aliens is a nailed on classic action movie. They exist in different planes and therefore can exist together.

Totally different films. Just like with T and T2, the first one's a horror-thriller, the second is an action film.

It's a filmlore meme I think - I think it just gets exaggerated as there is no way they could not know what was going to happen simply because of the logistics of the shot set-up - so I think it just got retold and blown out of all proportion as I've heard that Veronica Cartwright's reaction is genuine as she didn't know (no-one did I think) she was going to get sprayed with kensington gore.

I think the biggest mistake was that this movie was set in the future. They should have set it in at least present time. it would have been much more interesting. I am sorry for all you out there who like the movie, because this is the most boring movie ever created. Go buy AVP.

I think Alien is the better film, though it's a bit of an apples and oranges situation. However, I'd be more likely to watch Aliens as it's a bit less demanding - you have to be in the right mood for Alien. Although the screeching kid does automatically dock Aliens 20%.

The creature effects of the first are very wonky in parts, sadly, particularly at the climax. They do a good job of not revealing it much, though. Good horror filming, that.

Stupid cloverfield director ruining it at the last minute. Stupid, stupid.

I like event horizon a lot, also. I dont' think the bloke going mental is a bad thing, up until the point where he has all those silly scars on him. It was creepy before that, but that was too far.

I also really like it. It seems to take a panning on the Internet, which is odd. Cooper is ace.
I just found the idea that the ship itself could be trying to kill them far scarier than the idea that Dr. Weiss was after them. Once the doc went nuts, the ship stopped bothering them.

I just remember the ship being 'possessed' and then it all channelled into him at the end.

That's a good point actually. I suppose it's more like it possessed him but having a tangible figure isn't the same - especially as before that, they were dependent on the ship to survive, even while it was threatening them. Being totally enveloped by an evil entity that you can't do anything about because that'd mean being left in the void of space to die horribly is a lot nastier than having a nutter beat you up and set fire to things.

Most of the performances are pretty solid - Laurence Florence is impressively convincing as the military captain bloke, I thought. Much more interesting in that than in the matrix, which frankly anyone with sunglasses could have done.

There's nothing wrong with fancying her as it hardly takes a leap of the imagination to believe she would be a filthy filthy slut in bed. Liking her is a different matter though - one I suspect would possibly encourage depraved behaviour on your part :p
