There's cycling or running or something down Southend way too. Are they actually doing anything in London apart from the ceremonies?

And it is all under-way.

If you see a event described as "unticketed" what do you think it would mean?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19010407

Quote:
Between 50 and 100 spectators have been left disappointed, after arriving to watch the first stage of the Olympic archery at Lord's cricket ground.

The event was advertised by games organisers as "unticketed", meaning the public would not be allowed in.

Yeah, I'd assume you'd queued up.

Why wasn't anyone allowed to watch anyway? Safety reasons?

And - why is so much of it starting before the opening ceremony? Is that normal?

Some of you might like this (and might well have it already), but it's a guide to all the events and a list of the UK's best chances. It's pretty detailed.

Yes,

It's nearly always the football as there just isn't time to play 3 group games, and the knockout games in 2 weeks! (euro 2012 took 4 weeks to play about the same number of games!

lol I have no idea, does seem strange that it is all going on before the opening ceremony (I am looking forward to this opening ceremony more than Eurovision now, it looks like it will be so fucking bad it will be awesome!)

Also just found this guide for Johnny Foreigner on the BBC....

The English are British and lots of people think the British are English but that annoys the Scottish and Welsh because although some think they're British and some think they aren't and some think they are but don't want to be, they all agree that they definitely are not English. The Irish mostly think they are Irish, apart from the ones who are Northern Irish. Some say that makes them British and Irish. But others disagree and say they should just be Irish and then some say they aren't British.....<blah blah>
The English play football for England unless they aren't that good when they might try to play for Ireland. <lmao wtf>

What a bizarre piece. British people will likely find it vague and meandering, while the knowing tone and overly anecdotal writing might confuse people seeking genuine insight.

It said on the news that this event was to decide the order of play for the later Olympic events. It was closed to the public and only the press and “other athletes” were allowed in.

The term “unticketed” has been interpreted by the public, websites all over the world and some magazines as meaning turn up as there is no need for a ticket. There were even some rumours that Olympic advice lines were saying this as well.

The Olympic Organisers interpretation of “unticketed” appears to be there are no tickets so the public can’t get in as there are no tickets for them to buy.

Articles like this one on Cracked make me feel very embarrassed about what the Games have meant for the country, despite there being nothing new in the content.

Also, that Olympic badge looks completely out of place on the new army camouflage gear.

The BBC iPad app doesn't show the extra channels, because they're Sky only as far as I can tell.

Pretty sure the Sky iPad apps only allow you to watch the existing six sports channels, as long as you have a subscription.

You can't watch the ESPN channels, for example.

That this is the "most digital olympics ever" and has 24 HD channels of coverage that there is seemingly no way of watching on an iPad seems a little contradictory.

And, of course, the digital reception of all BBC channels has pretty much ceased here today. BBC1 is a collection of frozen pixels 75% of the time

I dare you and Wullie to go read that linked article and tell my which iPad app to use based on what it says. Here's a hint - the 'BBC Olympics' app (the only one mentioned on that link) is iPhone only and appears to be clips and results only.
