Willy Wonka expressed sorrow and went on to say that his plants have an excellent safety record.

I just joined Plaxo. Somehow, without looking at any address books, it suggested a load of people for connections who I already know.

How does it know this? I haven't given it any information and in many cases I'm not connected to these people on other sites such as Linkedin.

Spook!

Thought this info might be of interest to some of you:

Quote:
Maybe you have heard about this but early next week all UK mobiles will be on a directory which will mean that anyone will be able to access the numbers. It is easy to unsubscribe but it must be done before the beginning of next week to make sure that you are ex directory.

You may want to suggest it to all your friends and family who have UK mobiles or they could be swamped by unsolicited messages and calls. Removal is recommended by the BBC – see link below.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/working_lunch/8091621.stm

To remove your number go here. (you need your mobile phone with you to do this, they text you a code)
http://www.118800.co.uk/removeme/remove-me.html
You can remove your number from this list, and tell all your friends - especially those with children who have mobile phones. I personally believe my mobile number is private and I should be able to chose who I give it to - none of us agreed to this when we signed our mobile phone contracts.

The company say they don't pass on or sell your number, but it still sounds iffy...

I believe that they have got all their data from when people don't tick the box that says not to pass on your information, rather than the mobile phone companies. I have searched for myself on there and I'm not on despite having had the same mobile number for over ten years.

Thanks for the tip-off. I'm in their database. I see their point about them never actually giving out your number though -- they send an SMS to the person you are trying to contact with your number, not the other way around. That's not so bad.

You put a number into facebook at all?

No one rings me other than immediate family and 3 mates. Even then, I rarely answer.

Yes, in case anyone needed to call me.

I've added the correct one now.

Oops, I may have jumped the gun a bit, here. Dudley cleared it up a bit for me:

Quote:
They don't remove your number, they just stop giving it out. They still keep all your personal details.

Notice also that they force you to use the mobile in some way to "remove" yourself. They currently have less than half the numbers, if you "remove" yourself then they have yours too. They say they don't sell but that's not a contract, they can start doing anytime they like.

So at minimum wait until you get spammed by them later to prove they have it, then write to them demanding they remove you COMPLETELY.

Who wants my phone number? If anyone does, you can save 50p and ask me. Or add me as a friend on facebook.

Nah I just wanted the colour changing green one. Plus free delivery and using NECTAR10 at the checkout means if I don't get it now I probably never will due to IWOOT's amazing delivery charges.

I just entered a competition to win a 10 day trip to Seff Effrika (nice people, but some of them are terrible Boers). To do so, I had to write 250 explaining why I should be chosen. So I wrote down that I'ev had at least some experience with everything on the itinerary and that I've been about a bit, as they are going to be filming it for tellybox. I added a nice photo of me as well. It seems everyone else has written about their careers in teh media and what gear they use. The losers.

I want to go to South Africa because... it's bloody hot there! That's why. What a stupid fucking question. And besides, there's lots of birds knocking about on the beach, wearing skimpy bikinis with their knockers... hanging out... for everyone to get a really really really really good look at.
