Well I'm not sure I can list an order but here's 10 you must plan. This is not the 10 "best" as such, this is me. Moto GP really requires at least some fandom for instance.

Bioshock - FPS, here for atmosphere, game mechanic slightly flawed but generally beautiful and engaging.
Civilisation Revolution - Turn based strategy with a very well thought out style, probably the best single game in the series. Slightly simpler than later PC incarnations.
Earth Defence Force 2017 - Lunacy. Serious Sam meets Doom back when you had more than 1 (hundred) enemies of screen. Rough as all fuck but absolutely glorious, especially in co-op.
Fifa 09 - Fifa comes of age again, not going to convert non-football fans but PES players need to try this. Be a Pro mode is, as Myop says "RPG but football".
Flatout - Ultimate Carnage - Like a Burnout (pre-paradise) but with more racing and less "TAKEDOWN!". Excellent deformable courses and career mode.
Forza 2 - The daddy of near sim racing games. Kicks any GT you care to name into the ground then stomps on its face for several hours. Not perfect, small fields and some poorly thought out game mechanics and fictional tracks don't help.
Moto GP 08 - Finally THQ are ordered to stop fucking up MotoGP. The 125 and 250 classes are back, there's a career mode that works, physics that are usable but challenging and AI that's (largely) fair. 35 bike fields in the 125cc class are heart stopping.
Race Driver : Grid - Flawed but there's little this varied in a career mode anywhere. A very wide racing game let down by some slightly bizarre physics.
Test Drive Unlimited - Everytime you play it you'll find a new flaw but who cares. The most open, engaging and at times downright beautiful driving game ever. If the concept of driving round 1000 miles of real Hawaiian roads, entering races, buying cars from real dealers, houses to keep them in from real estate agents and just generally being freer than in any game ever even slightly appeals, grab it. Defines "open world" in racing games.
Tomb Raider Legend - A massive return to form for the series with decent controls, decent variety and a story and characters that don't make you rip your face off or leave you alone in the level for hours like in previous games.

My mum's on the train to Wales because my grandpa is dying. He may have a couple of days, he may have three weeks. But he's going, and it sounds like he'd rather it was sooner than later and this point, when he can think clearly at all.

And... oh, fuck it, there's lots of ands.

Anyway, things are tough right now in all sorts of ways, so apologies if I'm not my usual jolly, good-natured self for the next few weeks. Or months. Or years.

I shall go get some chocolate, I think.

Although I think I'd prefer a new puppy.

Fanks. Yes, I have no perception of pitch but would love to be more musical - I think this ability skipped a generation in me as both my parents were quite good musos. However, I can paint, so I make do with that!

There's the thing you see. I wasn't impressed enough by the demo to want to give it another go. I have the xbox hooked up Dolby Digital stylee and the ambient noise in traffic was seriously annoying. Perhaps if someone lent me a copy I might give it a bash...

So in the event anyone asks where Gnomes has gone, you can reply on my behalf to say I'm too fed up with the damn thing to log in and post. It'll give me a chance to concentrate on work instead of venting my spleen to no great avail.

Perkies? Yeah, he does, although I think he compensated by being grumpy about the DLC. Plus it came out a few years ago, when he still had a tiny little bit of hope left in his soul. Nowadays, not so much.
