Has anyone given the creature creator demo a go yet?

It's excellent fun, and it's going to be huge. Think The Sims x 1297432. Probably.

I predict it will be a flop. It's not going to have anywhere near the mass appeal of the Sims. To me it always seemed obvious the Sims would be a big seller because it reflected what people know. It reflected life and domestic situations (sort of) so people could relate to it.

Considering this and the blinkered closed minded nature of the general public, I figured Spore isn't going to work no matter how good it is.

I would be quite happy to be wrong, it would be great seeing something fun and original (ish) become really popular.

I know very little about this. Once they're created, can you actually DO anything with them, or do they just caper for your amusement? Part of the appeal of the sims to the rabid fans is in getting them to do stuff, and designing places for them to lie and planning out their lives in horrifically tedious detail (where a casual player like me wil have a vague plan, but really just do whatever seems funny at the time).

This is just the creature creator, the whole game is kind of like and RTS/Civilisation style game.

I have never looked forward to a game more than I have looked forward to Spore. I have watched all of the demonstrations and things like that over the past few years (one, I seem to recall, had Robin Williams creating and managing a creature) and it just looked wonderful from spore to universe roaming planet conquerers.

Once this and Animal Crossing for the Wii are out I am sure I shall never again see daylight.

:( I do not think that the 'general public' are as close minded as you perhaps think, and I think the game will be a success. People on this board often talk about the general public as if we are not all a part of it :smug:

I'm looking forward to the game but I doubt it'll be as successful as the Sims. Look at the Sims audience, the vast majority of people I know whom still buy the enhancement packs are young girls who enjoy bringing up a sim family, getting their sims married etc etc (Stereotypical I know but it's true). Spore just won't have that appeal.

You're seriously underestimating how intuitive and fun it is to create a freaky looking creature. My girlfriend has been pissing about with it for the best part of two hours, and guess what? She love the Sims. I honestly think this will be huge if EA manage to advertise it properly, which I'm sure they will.

It sounds and looks great.

It should be a hit providing it avoids the usual pitfalls of PC games.

I bet their already working on the inevitable expansion packs already.

Nah, they'll release it with bugs and omissions, let the fans mod it for free, then hoover up the mods and release them in bundles for £20 a go.

:this: and stupidly high hardware specs to run the game properly are my main concerns, although based on what I have seen, they seem quite sensible.

Of course this will all be irrelevant if it is killed by piracy like Crysis.

It has been confirmed for the Wii although no date has been announced, with the Xbox 360 and PS3 being possibilities.

I would have thought that the reason Crysis failed was two fold - the pre-release hype saying that you really need a stonkingly powerful PC running Vista and the fact that it is completely aimed at the sort of nerds who will be able to rip it off anyway.

No it was PIRACY! The developers said so and Bruce Everiss, a veteran games industry marketer, concurs.

The Sackus looks better in game (you can see his chompy sack, for a start). If you have the CC demo then just DRAG AND DROP these images right here from your web browser and into Spore. You can then start making my creatures dance! Awesome.

How? I've tried having Spore open and dragging it onto the taskbar, into the game and onto the Sport shortcut to no avail.

That's what I did, I made it into a window and simply dragged the picture into the Creature Creator page (where you have the generic blob floating about) - my only problem now is wondering how to save the creature as an image and put it in a post. I can't seem to register due to it blithering on about invalid keys. I have saved my creature to the Sporepedia however.

Print Screen?

I believe they've blocked the creation of online accounts until the game comes out.

If you've saved a creature in game (as in you see it in your "my creatures list") then the png is in \my documents\my spore creations\creatures\. Also, registertation is closed :( Have to wait until tomorrow (in America) I think.

jonarob wrote:

That makes it easier. But even in fullscreen you can drag it from the browser. Here's how: Alt Tab from spore to the browser. Drag the image from the browser, and keeping it "dragged", over the taskbar entry for spore. Keep it there for a second. Spore should pop up. Then and ONLY then should you let go of the button.

The screen tht you should do this on in spore is the one where you scroll through creatures.

My first Spore creation, hope this works:

It's called the Grumbala! :luv:

This might help:

Quote:
Spore Creature Creator keeps your creatures, movies, pictures,
and animated avatars in a folder called "My Spore Creations".
The location of this folder depends on your OS:

Windows XP:
* “My Spore Creations” is located in your "My Documents" folder.

Windows Vista:
* “My Spore Creations” is located in your “Documents” folder.

Mac OS X:
* “My Spore Creations” is located in your “Documents” folder.

This folder also keeps a cache of the graphics assets for creatures
you have downloaded. If you are short on disk space, try reducing
the size of that cache in the graphics options.

The ingame "video" feature is ace as well. Here are some I took-ed-ed. Note: You might want to mute them. There's some weird static sound that keep hanppening when I'm in spore that the videos picked up on :(

ALSO!
Tag your creatures with "BETEO", then, when the registration is allowed and we're all publishing our weird cock-monsters we can easily find each others! Hurrah.

Lovely videos. I've found that pretty much all the static sound revolves around the SFX, mute that one under audio options and you should be entirely static free!

Frankly, merely after playing with the creature creator and creating Grumbala, the lovable purple mace-wielding grass eating fun-monster, I'm in love. With decent marketing this could be big. Playing the full game I'd get really attached to my little creature funsters.

If Stu knocks this in his 'PC's, BAH!' column in Total PC Gaming, I'll be deeply aggrieved. Or something.

Do you not have the demo? Here is a link: http://www.fragland.net/downloads/SCCTr ... exe/16109/

Every time I've heard about Spore, all those weeks/months/years ago, I wasn't impressed/cloudn't care. After toying with the demo of the creature editor I'm quite excited about the full full game now. I've been busy making some utter abinations that I simply have to delete. Christ, God had a difficult task, didn't he?

Infact, let's think about this for a second. According to the bible, man is created in God's image, right? Well, when you make humans god the first thing they do is making giant dicks..... does this mean we're all a image of God's dick, in some way?
