There you go Throughsilver, your day off from work wasn't wasted at all as it contributed to the subtitle of the new Bits and Bobs thread.

Anyway, where were we?

Nah.

I'll take a good band over 100 DJs personally.

So would I, if it was 100 of the ones you hire ;)

Can't beat a live gig/live music IMO.

Sometimes when we were booked to fill in at weddings while the band was taking a break (because, apparently, being a band is really hard and you need to rest a lot) we would lead off with the song the band had just finished, or - if we'd sneaked a look at their song list - we'd end with the one they were going to start with. This quickly proved just how fucking band most bands are. And we'd always - always - be louder than they were. We were well grown up :D

Also all of them would ask us if they could use our lights. Why didn't you bring any of your own, dicks?

Oh, apart from when I was at a wedding where Ash played a few songs. They were right good.

Well, we knew the band we hired were dead aces like, from previous New Years Eve parties at La Belle Epoque. Cost a couple of grand IIRC but were worth every single penny of that; they played for at least 4-5 hours and were utterly, utterly awesome.

I've nothing against good DJs but totes stand by what I said. You cannot beat the sound, excitement, interaction or atmos of live performed music in my opinion, simple as.

I've been having this debate with some friends recently because one of my friends is arranging her wedding and trying to decide between band or DJ. Personally, I would have DJ, then ceilidh band, then DJ. I was at a wedding a couple of months ago that had a band that were great and did a wide variety of music but there are always limits to what they can do. A DJ can play anything though. I think my friend has decided to have a DJ playing music for all ages, before finishing with a rave for the last hour. It's going to be brilliant!

I went to a wedding recently with MrsChap. Normally I hate weddings, especially the receptions, as they're just DJs or bands and because you don't really know many people everyone just sticks to their own group.

However, this wedding featured a ceilidh band and they were awesome, offering instruction and guidance on ho to complete the actual dances, and they mixed the groups up so people got to know each other a bit better - it was far more inclusive than a typical reception.

The one I started in the past seemed pretty arduous going for people. I think it was the longest B&B ever.
