Ooh yes pls. Request that we keep the current mobile skin too though.

Have you checked "touchBB" as well? That came up when I searched tapatalk - it's cheaper and there's a free read-only evaluation version.

Eh? That took fucking ages and we had a load of feedback about it - why didn't you mention that then?

What, much like this one?

I'd imagine that spoilers don't work right on tatapapapapatalk, right?
Ak, there's no search :(

Post subject:  Re: Mobile browsing

I like it. Very much so. It's *vastly* better than using the phone browser, I'm on GPRS here and it's perfectly usable (the normal forum / phone browser is too slow to bother with)

We seem to be in the index too, scary!

My point about touchBB was just that it's 59p as opposed to 1.79. Perhaps it's a bit more basic.

If we're sticking with this one I'll buy it right now though. The missing features can only get better, right?

Post subject:  Re: Mobile browsing

Er, no. Spoilers and quotes will never work, nor will other 'Beex-specific' stuff, like the smilies and shit.

We're keeping it though, because it won't effect anything else and removing it involves me doing work ;)

Install the app. Run it. Click the "BEEX" icon!

Aw, quotes don't work. Do we do something clever with quotes?

The interface is a little odd to work out, but I think I'll get used to it. It doesn't like doing some things, like listing online users, but most stuff is fine.

But yeah, announce away. Mention that spoilers don't work though, or people will get sad.

Genius app idea though - a substantial proportion of forums are going to have this, and at least a handful of users on each will want to buy the app. Coinage!

I saw this the other day (Tapatalk, not this previously top secret thread), but it meant very little to me. I shall now revisit and see (although I don't mind the mobile site that much, except when it decides to log me out at random).

Because the one thing that annoys me the most about the mobile site is that Safari is massively oversensitive to tilt, so it's switching all the time, which utterly fucks up the rendering.

I think limitations in it are probably because it was designed to be an interface for vBulletin and phpBB support is relatively new for them. It relies on having a plugin installed server side (because phpBB3 has no API, the useless bastards) and I don't think the phpBB version of that plugin has complete support for all features.

I imagine this will change over time. We should probably be filing bug reports.

I came up with this business model about six months ago, but because you need to write a forum-side plugin to expose an API I decided it was too much work. I was going to try and write a native iPhone Beex client though, and just use the web interface for stuff. I probably won't bother now.

An option to lock it to your choice is hardly difficult.

Also: the mobile site only fucks the rendering if you tilt it mid-load. I agree that it's annoying, but not really a reason to omit landscape from an application.

I always type in landscape; switching back and forth is pretty annoying. That said, it has potential.

I'm pestering Grim... to also install the server side script for touchBB. Looking at the screenies, it might be slightly superior, and it allows posting from the free version of the client side app. It's iPhone only though. There's no reason we can't support all of these apps though.
