To prevent against cervical cancer. Good idea that is, and I'm most pleased that they are getting them when they are young, but part of me is confused as to why there was opposition to the scheme.. I wonder if they do the 'small prick' joke as well.

Any treatment to prevent STDs administered to children under the age of consent would be deemed to legitimize underage sex. So the objection goes, I think.

It's a stupid objection. Worry about underage sex as opposed to worrying about cancer.

I was speaking to a parent the other day, and we were talking about the sex education of kids, (specifically our 9/10 year olds) She was saying that 9/10 was too young for sexual education, but I completely disagree, remembering back to my primary school days there were people there, that were well on their way through puberty and that was just the teachers ah...

Sorry couldn't resist the L+H joke, but getting back to it, I don't think you can ever rely on ignorance of a subject to act as a deterent. Knowledge is power, and I'd rather kids learnt through their parents/teachers then finding out "The Facts" from Little Billy in the playground who knows stuff because he over heard his older brother talking to his mates. Or worse...

So yeah, the more sex education the better as far as I am concerned.

Without knowing a lot about the educational systems of other countries, I would postulate that the reason for our shocking teenage pregnancy rate is that we don't teach kids sex education early enough in life.

I'd certainly placed my winky inside a girl by age 10; despite it not being sex, we were both at an age where we were curious enough to act on our impulses.

I, however, didn't get my first sex education lesson until three years later.

Oh don't worry, it's been embarrassingly sparse since then. I was more trying to make the point of how no sex education let me down personally.

Yes, that's basically the gist of it. I'm afraid I couldn't tell you what kind of loonified marriage this was as, frankly, I have no idea myself. Was a bad idea all round, really. In a way it was something of a relief when my wife fell in love with another bloke and left me for him ;)

Wow, Gaz - that's pretty odd, though I did know a girl at Uni who dated a guy for 7 years 14-21 and never had sex during that time. He was a great guy, but I think that it had got to the point where they didn't for so very long that nether of them could actually make the move to make that step. Actually, that's not the case, I know for a fact that he tried to many times, but she wasn't having it...

I don't know anyone who had sex at 10 (!) And I'd say if your 'winky' as you called it was inside a girl then that's what it was, and yes, sex education let you down.

My primary school teacher broke school rules by telling us the facts of life at 11 years old, but it's a good job she did because my secondary school gave us no sex education at all, at any age.

What do you want to know? I'm not shy about it as now that I look back on it I find the entire business incredibly amusing ;)

Mimi: Your friend sounds similar to me. The lack of sex in my relationship with my ex-wife wasn't for the want of trying on my part ;)

I would never put up with it now, but as I was still sporting the fabled V-plates at the time, I think that I just wasn't aware of what I was missing so was happy to plod on without it. Luckily I went straight from that unfulfilling marriage to a very fulfilling relationship and I realised that sex is just as important a part of a relationship as everything else.

Thats just utterly incomprehensible to me.

Why you wouldn't want to sleep with the person you "love" for one thing...

You went two years without sex before getting divorced? Christ. I'd have called the lawyer after two months.

Sex education - we had sex education in third year junior school (so age 10). Do they not do that any more?

As I understand it, aside from the cretinous puritan whingers and their ignorant dribblings, there's some basis for a legitimate complaint about these jabs. They're a massive misappropriation of resources. They're very unlikely to save more than a tiny, tiny minority of girls/women from a small number of possible cancers, and the cost to benefit ratio is very poor for an NHS operation. The same resources could be spent dealing more effectively with a number of more harmful illnesses.

This sounds liek what we had. We had one lesson where we were split into boys and girls.

The boys were told to wash under their arms and around their penises.

Girls were told, via the stupidest video in the world, to wash under our arms and between the legs - it was a cartoon and there was a blue spiral over these areas - so if you see someone with a blue spiral over each armpit it means they have B.O.

:hat:
ImageImage

Also, then girls were told that one day they will have periods, and that you could use either a sanitary towel or a folded flannel/piece of towelling to manage your period.

We were not told WHY this would happen.

There was no sex education as part of this lesson, and, most importantly WE WERE FIFTEEN and most of my friends had reached full puberty by this point anyway, so the lesson was totally redundant.

Also, they never even suggested the option of tampons to anyone - sanitary towel or flannel - they said you couldn't go swimming whilst you were on your period and that it might hurt. That was it.

Actually, now I think about it I am pretty disgusted by the whole thing, they really let most of the kids down in that respect.

The man in the instance I am talking about us a very religious type who went against his very strict religious 'no sex before marriage' rule. The girl was looking for a quick and failsafe way to a husband and baby, and got it.

They are still married to each other, but they are not very suited to each other, but his morals and her desperation to be a wife and mother bind them together pretty strongly.

I wonder if it will give one day or if they end up loving each other to the end after sticking it out?
