Well after an enjoyable inaugural night it's time to set up evening two.

Please post here if you want to play. I expect it will be next Thursday but maybe open to change if there is demand. Remember there is no limit to the amount of players; we can always have two or more tables at the same time.

Please state:

1)If you want to play.

2) Whether you are happy with Limit Poker or whether you would prefer Pot Limit poker. Pot limit allows your maximum bet to be the size of the pot.

3) If there is anything you would change regarding the rebuys, the time span between blinds or anything else to do with the structure of the game.

I had fun :smug:

I'll do it again. I don't really undertand the limit and no-limit difference, but I guess no limit would make the last few rounds go faster.

1) Depending on when it is, I would like to play. I need to take my rightful place at the bottom of the pile.
2) I don't understand these words. Whatever everyone wants will probably be fine.
3) Nothing that springs to mind.
4) Can I be Bond next time?

Limit has structured betting defined by the blinds. As you saw you had the choice of calling or raising double what the previous person had bet. There was a limit to how much you could bet at once and it was always in relation to the blinds.

No Limit doesn't have such limitations. So you cold bet 20 chips and the player could go all-in with his entire stack.

Pot limit means that the maximum bet is limited by the current size of the pot. A half way house between Limit and No Limit.

I'll certainly play.

I don't really understand the knock-on effects of changing all the purdy numbers. But I'd like to say that I'm happy as long as a) Shite people still get a reasonable amount of time in the "lowzone" and b) the high people aren't kept around so long they have to leave before the end.

I'm not sure how you accomplish such a thing. Maybe adjust the timer from 15 minutes a level to 10? It wasn't that far out tonight, I don't think.

Post subject: Re: Poker Night II

If we have Pot Limit I was thinking of only allowing two or so rebuys. But I would allow rebuys to occur throughout the tournament not just in the first hour. This would mean that people can be a bit more creative in regard to making some big moves but they know that they only have a a set amount of 'second' chances if they muck up.

This prevents players (CG) from going all in every hand and using their considerable wealth to rebuy. (It also prevent anyone from spending more than £2)

Or we could just stick with limit :)

I think a change to pot limit would be alright, least it will give people a preference for future games.

I should be ok to play aswell.

Post subject: Re: Poker Night II

As I said in the other thread, I prefer no-limit, but pot-limit would be a good compromise. I think the blind increases were about spot on - two hours is about right for a game like that.

I can't play from Thursday onwards next week as I'm going to the Big Chill. Monday is Obscure and Wednesday is Forza, so only leaves me with Tuesday... perhaps I'll have to give it a miss and play in two weeks' time.

I'm not around this Thursday, but count me in as a definite for a game on Thursday 7th!

I think pot limit and two rebuys sounds like a good plan.

Post subject: Re: Poker Night II

I'd like to play, but Thursdays are out for me. A day earlier or later and I'm all over it.

Pot limit is probably the sweet spot between fun and the risk of people crashing out early when you've got a group of players with wildly varying skill levels.

How about something like Sunday evening, when people are pretty much gauranteed to be about? I know some people are funny about their weekends, though. I'm happy with whatever as long as it's not Monday or Wednesday as I've said before, so I'll work around what people need.

I don't know, but I thought last night's game was a good length - 2 hours play, the length f an average movie - most people should be able to last that long - I think shortening the rounds to ten minute would mean that it went up to fast, and the not so good among us would be shovelled out a bit too quick. I think last night's game was well balanced.

Um, well, I guess finding a day to suit everyone is always going to be difficult. Weekends are 'funny' for some people, as you say, and many people have commitments for other days, so I think it will be very difficult to please everyone :(

I'll play Tuesday, but only if the missus wants to join in and play too, as I've been neglecting her a bit lately and we will be spending some time together.

Unless she's on a late shift or something, in which case, I'm in!

:)

But generally consider me unlikely to be able to make any nights until after next weekend. After that, I'm free most of the time.

:D

I don't want to burst your bubble, but it's incredibly easy to win play money tournaments...

Tuesday's "real" poker day, sorry. If it started at ten rather than half-nine I'd probably be OK but I can understand why people wouldn't be up for that.

Either night at the weekend's usually free.

Tuesday is OK for me, but I'd like the game to finish a bit quicker maybe. or rather when I'm out I have to go to bed.

I only got three hours sleep last night, due to having to be up super early.

I think that I started playing a bit looser towards the end because I was tired/tipsy. Perhaps we could start at 9pm? I don't know if this'll be workable with Sheepeh's tardiness. ;)

Not really. I don't finish work until 9PM, 9:30 just about gives me time to sit at the computer with a snack. Any earlier and MY HEAD ASPLODE.

Post subject: Re: Poker Night II

How long will it last is pretty hard to define. That's why I put the one hour limit on rebuys. Even without this it all depends on how long the players make it. The next one will probably have a 'normal' rather than 'slow' time limit on the blinds which should reduce the time a little. A tournament is a marathon and not a race.

We shall try it out and if it's not as much fun as the first game go back to that. We can only tell by trying can't we?
