So are you reviewing it for Snappy Gamer? I assume that's why you've got it. ;)

Nope. I didn't ask for it - I'm still on the MS mailing list it seems. They sent me ODST as well. I might cobble something together if I have time, but not for Snappy Gamer.

It's alright. Have you played the demo? I thought the Forza 2 one was okay. This one's all white and clean. Pretty simple - I had no problems with it, anyway.

-any cheevos for using the full manual/clutch?
-on that note, any in the vein of the previous game doing tedious stuff like clean laps and finishing from the back of the pack and so on? You know, stuff you grind through in the first day to get it over with?
-can you import or in any other way interact with paintwork (like saved designs) from Forza 2?

I never ground any of those achievements - I got them all from playing properly. ;)

I'll look into the manual clutch thing - I can't access the cheevo list on Xbox.com it seems, because it's not out yet, presumably. I had a quick skag last night but I didn't notice one, although I'd be surprised if there wasn't one for it, seeing as there's one for 5G for completing a race in cockpit view... It's quite generous with them at first. You get 15G for your first race (which is a mandatory race in an Audi R8 on the track from the demo), you get 5G for "jumping 5 feet", which I got by accident when I veered off track in the first race. You get one for driver level 1 and car level 1, AND one for driver level 2 and car level 2, and more for levels in each after that. You get one for completing your first "weekday event" and one for your first "weekend event". I got one for creating a vinyl thingy as well. That's about all I can remember at the moment, but I'll give you a definite answer when I get home. I didn't notice any particularly tedious ones, but like I say, I didn't have a proper good look.

I don't know about the paintwork because I never dabbled in that sort of thing in Forza 2. I'll have a look for an option, though.

Only thing I'm really interested is a track list. Notably, are there any other new real world tracks beyond Le Mans and Catalunya.

I managed to learn the nurburgring, but I think I'd struggle with that one.

And damn it, they've kept the rubbish snake courses.

I don't mind the snake courses. Also, they're not actually on the disk it seems. You get a DLC voucher in the box which entitles you to all of the stuff listed in orange on that forum. The code is no-worky at the moment, though :( Hopefully it'll work on release day or something.

No cheevo for manual clutch. There are a couple of drifting ones and some for interacting with the community like selling, buying, etc. The rest are Driver Level X all the way up to 50, completing a season of season mode up to the fifth one, completing every single event with a gold medal, and collecting at least one car from every manufacturer (none of the region bullshit this time, this is the only collect-y achievement). They look quite straight forward to be honest. None require specific skill, just playing the game a lot. They're not particularly grindy either, barring the level 50 one and the complete every event with a gold medal one. But getting to level 50 shouldn't be too hard if you're playing it a lot anyway.

I do think I'll actually be getting this, as much as I found Forza 2 dull. This one, from the demo, just feels better, and I've had a lot more fun in that than in the whole of Forza 2.

However, I'm skint, so I'll stick it on my Christmas list.

Generally, is Forza actually any fun, or is it all serious and needing to know about car specs and stuff? Serious question, because I'm rubbish at racing games but if it was a laugh like Burnout, I might try it.

I think you need to be into cars a bit. I can imagine that for anyone who isn't it's probably about as enticing as I find any game that involves football. Best thing to do is check out the demo really.

:this: I've got pals that like racing but not the tuning etc. that comes wi' Forza. On the other hand I like tuning the cars so they fit my driving style, but having to buy loads of shit just so I can change it's handling is a complete pain in the arse IMO. Realistic(ish) I guess, but still a pain in the hoop.

I liked the free control pad that came with Forza 2. That's about it.

You should all read the review - basically there's an autotune function that is vehicle and track specific that you can use if you can't be arsed learning how to tune your cars. Hell, there's such a dizzying plethora of assists it really does sound like the only racing game you'll ever need as it pretty much caters for everyone from complete novices up to serious petrolheads.

I did. The problem isn't that I don't like tuning the cars, I do* & it's the only way to make most of them drivable**, but having to buy several mods to unlock the various tuning options pisses me off*** & I tend to stay clear of engine mods unless I really need them so that's autotune out. That said it'll probably come in handy for the cars that I've little interest in.
*Just ask markg about me & my obsessive hotlapping :]
**I like cars that stick to the road like glue, but have a back end that's only just on the right side of loose.
***Forza & Gran Turismo have always been a bit too much of a collect/shop 'em up & IMO it detracts from the racing. It's one thing sim racers do well. You've fewer cars (presumably because they tend to use race cars rather than road cars) but you've immediate access to all the tuning options.

I like Forza because it lets me be like Clarkson on Top Gear, driving an obscenely powerful car far too fast around a track, going 'woof woof POWERRRRRRRRRRRR'.

That and painting 'Maddie' on my car.

I guess this is generally considered the Seinsible Gentlemen's choice? (The CE version that is). If I order this, what are the chances of having it on launch day - I would be upset if I got home and it wasn't there next Friday. Otherwise I'd just be buying the regular version from a shop on Friday.

Pre-orders on the web generally come the day before (although there's a postal strike on the Thursday).

I decided the limited edition wasn't worth the +£15 it would cost me.

Decision made. Fuck the post. Have permission from High Command to slob and enjoy for almost the entire weekend.

* yeah yeah, and the steering wheel

ok, Ive only had a quick go but so far its been pretty much perfect for what I needed.

The only slight problem I have with it is that the main shaft that holds the wheel is a little short for my natural sitting position, I wouldve prefered it being a little bit longer, but its ok and not uncomfortable.

I managed to beat my times on Forza3 quite easily but that is probably more to do with the fact that they werent that good to begin with, rather than the wheel making me better!

But still, the game is so much more interactive with the wheel Im glad I now get to use it. It may have cost me £100 odd, but I think its been a better purchase than the £70 odd I paid for the wheel which I previously never used.

You can clamp the pedals down but they are fine just to sit there which makes it a lot easier to store away when youre not playing.

Overall Im glad I bought it, so if youre not short of money Id recommend getting one, but I think like Gaywood said earlier, it is a tad expensive and at around the £50 price mark it would have been a much better buy.

Ok so I'm definitely buying this on Friday. In fact having read some more reviews today I'm so excited about it I may have even done a sex wee. Anyway enough of that.

Who else is grabbing it at launch?

Having not taken part in any of the previous Organised Chaos events, will there be more of the same planned?

Interestingly the cars aren't locked in FM3 they are all available so long as you have the cash.I'm quite pleased about this, in FM2 I have been very gritty and have lots of money but a lot of the cars I'd like to buy are locked. Which is a bit frustrating.

1. Me. Even if I'm unable to play it at launch.

2. Hell yes. We need to come up with an inaugural event, possibly for next Wednesday. (also, I'm sure we played Forza 2 online a few times, just not at one of the big eventy ones?)

3. Auction house.

I've seen this advertised for £49.99 :S I'm not paying 49.99. Any advance on 40?

No -- I preordered the normal one for £32ish and the cheapest I've seen the limited edition was £47ish. That's what my "+£15" meant.

As Dimrill's pointed out a couple of times, Blockbuster have been doing the special for £39.99.

I changed my pre-order over from shopto. I'm regretting that now (a bit, but probably not £7.50s worth).

Yeah, that deal was after the Zavvi preorder I made for £32 I think (unless I missed it), and I nearly moved my preorder to it, then didn't. I can't get all that excited about 10 extra cars in a game that has more than 400 of them.
