O.K one of my fave things to eat on this earth are Jalepeno poppers. They're amazingly simple but they're just IN.credible.

All you need is some real fresh Jalepenos, some Philadelphia cream cheese (I guess you could use Dlea) and some breadcrumbs.

Cut off the stalk of the pepper,chop it into two down the middle, gut it (very important unless you want to die of a stomach ulcer.. DO NOT leave the seeds in) and fill the inside of each half of Jalepeno with cream cheese. Then simply breadcrumb and deep fry.

However, I can't fookin find ANYWHERE that sells Jalepenos apart from the shit chopped ones in jars (they're pickled).

I was watching Come dine with me last night and saw this dude say "green chilis" and I swear they were Jalepenos. Are they? If so what supermarkets sell them, and if not where the buggery can I get some from?

I thought that most supermarkets did these? Tesco?
Or just go to your local grocer or something

What we call jalapenos tend to be chopped, pickled, in a jar. Dead tasty too.

For poppers, just use the short yellow or green peppers that are the right size, Asda have them. They seem the same as the ones you get in Chiquitos, and those taste good to me.

Waitrose may also be good for them. They certainly do slices in a jar.

I'm sure I've seen jelly penii in Waitrose.

The seeds aren't the hot part of peppers. It's the stalk they're attached to that's super-hot.

I grew some Habaneros once. Those things are truly dangerous. My mother in law picked them and rubbed her eyes.. Opps. By the time me and the ex arrived there it looked like she had gone ten rounds with Tyson.. Nearly had to take her to the hospital

They're not supposed to be hot though. There's no heat at all.. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE hot food. Absolutely love it. But poppers are just greasy snack food.

JALAPENO POPPERS. FUCK YES. I used to buy huge bags of them frozen... the only places I've seen them done around here (UK) are Chiquitos (where you only get four) and TGI Friday's (who I think stopped doing them, just as well as they were rubbish and served with chili jam?!?).

HOWEVER! At Christmas, Mrs Metal's parents had a big snack platter and these were among the snacks. I'll find out where they got them.

For the wedding, we made a big tower of Rice Krispie cakes. Each cake had some Jelly Bellys in. We put a warning on saying the red ones weren't strawberry, but Jalapeno.

Just a generic place that delivers pizzas. They all do them in London, and I can't believe it's a London "thing".

I don't remember anywhere in London doing them, and none of the places in St Albans do them as my mother would have excitedly called me if they did.

See if you have a Turkish supermarket nearby - our local one used to do a good range of spices and chillies and the like that you couldn't get anywhere else.

Well the Jalepeno part is kind of a trick tbh. They're not hot at all..Not even in the slightest.

I don't quite know how that works but it does, very well.. I used to get them at diners all the time because they make the perfect snack..

I have had frozen ones but tbh they're not that nice (not here though, awesome to know they are obtainable here !).. Problem being is it's hard to get them cooked all the way through and if you thaw them they go all soggy.. eyuck.

They are extremely simple to make however, so once I get my hands on some I'll make myself a large plateful and stuff my face.

Put it on an everything bagel. You won't say it's bad then. /drools

Err, I'm not sure if you're being serious here or not, but I'll assume you are for a second: heating up that much oil in a saucepan would be a bit dangerous, and would also probably take a really long time.

I don't like battered fish see, it's like a grease sponge so I use breadcrumbs on fresh fish. Mmmm.

We had them in a similar buffet pack that we bought in Sainsburys. They were very tasty.

I recently bought plenty of chillies, ideal for creating chilli poppers, from Splott Market. Although I can't imagine that helps much use unless you're in Cardiff.

It's not that dangerous as long as you're not having a cat swinging contest in the kitchen at the same time as you're heating the oil.

Really? It's just it takes a fair while to heat up a saucepan full of water, let alone oil.

Truth here. An Indian guy I used to work with would occasionally bring in various foodstuffs; he brought these deep-fried chillis in. I have no idea what chillis he used, but they were eye watering, and I'm pretty robust around hot foods (I've had Dave's Insanity Sauce neat from the bottle half a dozen times, normally whilst watching some poor sap at one of my parties try it for the first time).

I should really.. It'll probably be quite easy to get some seeds and then use the seeds I remove to grow more.

I used to grow my Habaneros in a spare wheel off an old car. Thing is, I'm not sure if the climate here would be any good.. Actually I should look into whether they can be grown indoors.. A couple of old ice cream tubs and plenty of fourtiloizer ought to do the trick.

I tried growing some in the greenhouse last year but basically forgot about them and ended up with a total of 4 blindingly hot chillis about the size of a pea.

I fancy giving it another go, perhaps if we have a thread here I'll remember to look after them a bit better.

I am planning on growing my own chillies this year. My dad has had a few years of successful batches so I'll be picking his brain.

Perhaps a Not Percy Thrower's (Chilli) Pepper Thread is required?
