I went through a period of playing Dune II so much I dreamt about it. Very odd. I'd wake up in the morning, load up my save game and couldn't work out why I was still at stage 5, when I had dreamt completing it.

I do that with games, it's horrible! Coupled with the fact Gaz insists on showing me new games so I stay quite for hours on end, I feel like I'm in a creche!

For those about to rock . . . AC/DC tickets for the Oh Poo Arena, Bummingham and Madchester went on sale at 10am and now they're already all sold out. I am sans tickets.

Bum.

Although a road trip to watch them in Milan is currently being suggested. :metul:

Did anyone else manage to get some?

Yes, solution, tell your new employer first and if they agree, get yourself fired by the warnings system.

Turn up in tracksuit bottoms for client meets.
Be mysteriously late back from lunch.
Play flash games all day.
Speak only in Japanese.
Spend the day sitting on your desk crosslegged with your keyboard on your chair.
Refer to your boss only as "Skippy the boss kangeroo".
Use the coat rack as the basis for a tetherball set.
Set the air conditioning to bake.
Keep your shoes in the office fridge.

If you don't get fired, it'll be the best 3 months of your life.

Ha! Amazing! And also how easy is it for employers to agree to waiting for 3 months? I can see it making sense for managers and other such people but not sure about my position. Anyone had to deal with such a long notice period?

Any one item of the above would be more productive than the week I've been having. The databases I need to access are still unavailable.

In my experience a three month required notice period is rare outside of senior management or very client facing roles like product specialists and project managers. And yes, it can make job hunting more difficult, as there are employers who cannot wait three months for candidate -- although if your current role has three months notice, it's likely the role you move to will as well, in which case they are more likely to be understanding.

Hell yes. 3 months is absolutely standard with solicitors. I've known people get absolutely stuffed with long hours and late nights in their final months as well.

Get sued for specific performance is what. And then get a massive black mark passed around our relatively small community.

I've never known anyone to just sack it off in their last months in a solicitor's job unless they're leaving the law entirely.

I guess a problem with just getting fired is that you'd lose any holiday they owe you. So take all that first. Although Mrs Squirt had a 3 month notice period, but managed to get it down fairly easily. I doubt there is any advantage to having a peed off employee hanging around for 3 months for no reason.

Such speed cameras would only "spy" on you if you broke the law. Easy solution - obey the law.

So you'll be happy to allow me to read all your email then.... just in case one of them breaks a law.

Apples and oranges, duds. It would have to be a machine that only read my emails if something in them was illegal.

Incidentally, do you object to police officers looking at you?

Sweet. Cheers guys. Just needed to understand. Obviously it’s good if they make me redundant but not so good if looking at doing other jobs.

Now I need to decided what the hell I can go for! Jeez this working style never really seemed worth going to Uni for!

It scans all the cars, not just the speeding ones. That's how it knows which ones are speeding.

It only takes a photo if you're speeding, of course, but I take your point.

So in what way is it different to a copper stood at the side of the road watching you with a raygun? Or at least one who's actually doing his job and not knocking off early for sandwiches.

Arbitariness? A speedcamera won't let you go because it doesn't want to fill out forms instead of ending it shift.

I do like my prawns and lobster.

I also liked that yellow smoked stuff and fish fingers!

Actually I don't very often eat whole fish. Anyone else eat actual fish that hasn't been deep fat fried or mashed up?

Yeah, we often eat proper fish; rainbow trout, salmon, that kind of thing.

Never mind. I saw them in '86, and they were great, but be honest - they've been releasing the same album for the last 15 years. I can imagine the 50% of the show that covers their old songs being fun, but they're far too musically irrelevant to produce a consistently good show.

I totally agree. Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to delete all the CPC and Spectrum ROM's for games I don't still have the original media for.... Actually that might still be borderline so best if I just destroy the lot.

I've also paid a man to follow you around with a video camera to make sure you don't drop litter/speed/have sex in public. But that's all cool because you will be obeying the law.

And I've also put a camera in your bathroom to ensure you don't use too much toilet paper. We need to save the environment you know.
