Anyone tried the Forum Runner app?
When I accessed BETEO on my touch was prompted for this app.

Yeah, we were talking about it in the Mobile Viewing thread. I'm not too impressed by ForumRunner. Safari looks a lot nicer.

I got it, and haven't gone back to Tapatalk, just to counter Kalmar a bit.

Tapatalk regularly crashed for me, and coupled with its inability to jump to the last unread post (a feature that's so basic the forum doesn't function properly without it. If you haven't written this feature, your app isn't fit for purpose) didn't give me any reason to stick around.

Forum Runner is by no means perfect. Searching and PMs don't work, sometimes posts don't display, and links are often parsed incorrectly. But it's not too bad, and without giving up with frustration, I'm still using it over Tapatalk and Safari.

I'll post back after I have used tapatalk for a week but seems to be working ok, I'm an old school usenet user & online forums are difficult for me to asjust to. I just wanted something easier to use & mobile. Which should in turn mean I will be posting more often :)

Has anyone noticed that Malaboob's posts have no subjects? I guess that because of his deviant app usage.

Speaking of Tapatalk, I love how the response to Kalmar's question about jumping to the latest unread post on their forum was (paraphrased) “This is a VB-only feature. Get PHPBB to implement it, and we'll look at adding it in.”

Christ.

Except that it works in Forum Runner, which uses the Tapatalk plugin. So they're lying.

Even though I don't particularly care about this as I've realised that on the forum I always jump in to last post rather than last unread anyway, it's a bit pants to try to brush it off like that. Reply left :)

I quite like Board Express apart from the fact it doesn't jump to last unread post. :(

Spoiler tags are custom to our phpbb theme and not part of phpbb; so they're never going to work in any of these apps.

Just to confuse matters, Tapatalk has had an update this morning and scroll-to-first-unread seems to work now. PMs and searching work too, unlike Forum Runner.

PMs even have a reply all button!

To be fair, nothing in the release note implies that they've done anything about jump-to-first-unread, which has been there as an option for some time but never worked for phpbb boards.

Quote:
Version 1.10

New Features:
- New UI style for iOS 4
- Ability to open a thread in Safari
- Ability to share a thread via email
- Multiple attachment support for vBulletin and phpBB
- Ability to open internal links within the app (partial)

Bug Fixes:
- Improved stability
- Many other bug fixes

In almost all other respects I still find it better than forumrunner though.

I've bumped the thread on their forum to ask about it.

Is that the location thing? I don't know how to access it now other than after I first set it up.

You should try talking to the PHPBB guys instead. I hear this is a VB-only feature :belm:

The footprints button at the bottom of the page, then you choose either "members" or "feeds" to see what other people are up to.

It's of no use whatsoever, but quite neat anyway :)

I don't tend to use it, but after a quick test, it seems to work fine on the Android version. I might wait until I've got a few more unread posts to look at though.

Edit - It sort of seems to work anyway, on one thread it appeared to take me to the top of the last page (which I'd already read) as opposed to the first unread post a bit further down the page.

Which program are you talking about? If it's tapatalk, then when you are in the "latest" tab it should jump in at the latest post in the thread. Scroll your way back to catch up if you want.

That's how I use the forum anyway, hence not caring about this allegedly vital feature :)

Tapatalk, and it seems to jump to my last unread post, not the latest post in the thread.
To be honest, I just use the standard forum layout to browse on my phone, so I'm not too fussed whether it works or not, but Doc did mention that he wasn't sure if it was iPhone specific, so I wanted to try and offer something so he could work out if it is or not.

I think Android users are more tolerant of crummy UIs, which is why they're happy to use the normal theme in a browser despite its layout shortcomings ;)

I'm not sure what shortcomings it has, do you use a mobile view when browsing on your mac?

I don't know if the same problem existed on Android, but in Mobile Safari the text size of posts would vary wildly, from unreadably small to GIANT, and of course there's no ability to zoom in or out on the fixed-width mobile skin. I could never quite figure out the cause.

I think the unread post issue is the only thing holding me back from using Tapatalk. ForumRunner is a terrible app.

Random text resizing for another. Does this not happen on Android?

Fuck no. We have good browsers.

[edit]Is it "random text resizing in quotes"? Because I can probably find that. Note that the 'quote' button is meant to be bigger.

What does the "write post" screen look like on Android? It's a mess on iPhone:

The only problem I have with the Android browser, specific to mobile view, is when a picture is wider than the screen res of the phone, it's chopped off.

Not a huge problem
