By the way, you can turn off auto renewal of Live Gold accounts on xbox.com now. You can turn it *on* as well, if you like. :)

I would say "mentally" is absolutely apposite there. :)

Goodness me. The ASDA price guarantee thingy actually works. I got £17 of last week's bill plus a fiver for spending over £40 and am due another £8 + £5 this week.

I can't get back into the thread Grim... has just posted about the Met police's twitter feed. :(
I'm at college today so I assume it's the good old college filter again, which doesn't like the pages even when I have the swear filter on for some reason. Would really appreciate it if you have posted a word in there (I'm going to hazard a guess at c you next Tuesday) :p if you could edit it so I can get back in, but don't worry if you don't want to.

What is the price guarantee? Sainsburys have started printing off vouchers with money off coupons for the price differences between branded products from competitors, or a voucher saying how much you saved if that was the case. They annoy me though because I always forget them and get annoyed that they don't just put the money on my nectar card to use the next time I visit, and it could be deducted automagically. I understand why they don't do that, as obviously then it would be even easier for us to save money whereas just now they get to make a gesture and then half of us forget to redeem it, but still annoying.

You go to the site and enter your till number. If your shopping was 10% cheaper than Tesco/Sainsburys/Morrisons, according to a third party price scraper firm, you get some amount back.

The Sainsbury's vouchers are even worse, because (when you lose them or don't go back in time to use them before their short expiry date) they are concrete proof that Sainsbury's was, in fact, more expensive. That seems like an odd blunder in consumer psychology for a supermarket to make.

You put in the details from your last till receipt from ASDA on their site and it compares prices with other supermarkets. If they're not 10% cheaper they you can print off a voucher for the difference, and if you've spent more than £40 you get a £5 voucher as well. N.B. You have to take the till receipt in with the vouchers when you next shop there and they'll deduct the value of the vouchers from the current bill.

Yeah, that's a good point. I literally never remember them, then I get home and see a few vouchers worth almost a tenner and get annoyed at Sainsburys for not making it easier for me to use them. Then when I get another on my next visit I get frustrated and wish it was on my nectar card. Now I'm thinking about going to Asda. So yeah, you're right!

I used to always prefer Sainsburys for quality (especially of fresh meat) but lately I have noticed that Asdsa have some good stuff like mozzarella and pancetta. Maybe it's because the Asds is a decent size and my sainsburys is pretty small. I don't usually go to Asda but recently I have been a few times and it is alright acually.

I have to say, whilst being aware that this sounds horrendously snobby I find that the general clientele in Sainsburys are much more agreeable than the Asda users on the whole. Asda in Irvine smells funny and I have never once seen a ned in their jammies in Sainsburys.

I might do my next shop at Asda and see how I get on with this price thing then. Although a nice new big sainsburys opens in Irvine in a couple of weeks so I'm sure they'll win me back.

Well quite, you won't run into short loud Welshmen for one thing.

I prefer Waitrose on the whole, not least as their apparent hiring policy for checkout staff is utterly awesome.

That wasn't clear, sorry. Here's the actual blurb from the site:

Quote:
If we're not 10% cheaper than Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Waitrose on your comparable grocery shopping we'll give you the difference. Guaranteed!

In order for your shopping to be eligible for the Asda Price Guarantee, you need to have bought at least 8 different items, of which at least 1 should be comparable to the above competitors. If the total cost of the comparable items in your shopping isn't 10% cheaper than the above competitors, we'll give you the difference.

Price reductions and promotions (such as “2 for £1”, “3 for 2” and “buy one get one free”) are included.

We will always issue a voucher for the largest amount, when we aren’t 10% cheaper than more than one competitor.

Quote:

This is exactly what's happened to me. I'd not have noticed if they hadn't given me the voucher.

Same here. My local Asda do my favourite potatoes (Marabels, which are awesome for roasting) and also sells buffalo mozzarella, which my nearest Sainsbury's doesn't stock.

On the other hand, the aisles in Asda are narrower and it's generally busier than the other supermarkets. I go there 3-4 times a week at lunchtime (I work in a shopping centre that has one), and do most of my food shopping then when it's not too crowded. I'd never go there at peak times, though.

Hmm, maybe it doesn't.
Using http://www.beex.co.uk/m/ will fix that, as the reply page doesn't have the previous posts.

Yeah buffallo mozzarella was one of the things I was thinking of, I think it's because asda has a good selection of their extra special range even in mid size stores like the one near me. The Sainsburys is small and only has their saver range of mozzarella, which must be a decision based on the area whereas I'd prefer if they aimed to be the more upmarket supermarket in the area and decided that if we were buying mozzarella we'd rather buy the nice stuff so if they only have space for one, to make it a decent one.

Downside - going to the ASDAs.
I shop at Asda 3-4 times a week.

Point proved.

I have to say, whilst being aware that this sounds horrendously snobby I find that the general clientele in Sainsburys are much more agreeable than the Asda users on the whole. Asda in Irvine smells funny and I have never once seen a ned in their jammies in Sainsburys.

We shop at Asda in Hulme with the bruthas and the Polish plumbers, etc.

I've never had a problem with this, but my daughter's ex-bf said he felt intimidated going in there, but then he does come from rural Rochdale.

I love how the method of getting gas from stones is called fracking. After watching BSG I enjoy listening to radio four and hearing a lively debate on the benefits of fracking :)

I don't get radio reception in my basement.

Do you want radio reception in your basement?

Given that the wireless connection is still up and down like a whore's drawers down here, being able to listen to the radio would be nice. It gets a little lonely.

Have you tried going upstairs?

It turns out that the route of the problem is not having an aerial attached to the stereo.

Oops.
