Oof. I gather she's young to be having a stroke?

Yes, younger than my g.f., and both are still in their 20s. Thankfully it's definitely not a stroke. The doctors at the neurological hospital should know around this time tomorrow, apparently. I hope it is something easier fixable...

Any news matey, hope it's all ok. x

She's been booked into rehabilitation for multiple sclerosis.

:(

So worry to hear that. It must be a shock - has it come on so sudden with no previous symptoms?

Best wishes to all of the family and especially your girlfriend and her sister xxx

Thanks Meems. Not sure how long she's been ill, but then I personally haven't seen her since last Easter. I think her boyfriend was trying to find her a specialist for a while though.

Eek, Wullie! Hopefully it's at an easrly stage and as such treatable with antibiotics.

I have a weird stomach/abdominal complaint at the moment. It started on Friday of last week just after I had a pint and a meal at the local pub (our first recreational trip outside with Onnie). It feels a bit like trapped wind and a bit like food poisoning, but not quite like either. It hasn't really altered in severity of pain a great deal since arriving, though was perhaps at its worst on Sunday night. It's right behind my bellybutton, and just above it, but back a bit (as in, inside the skin, fat and muscle layers). It hurts most when I'm moving, such as dropping down to sitting/lying or getting up quickly.

Oddness, and made all the worse by sleep deprivation!

Good luck , did you keep any of the ticks ? (we're going walking in Scotland in a few weeks and have been reading up on them and we're packing little plastic bags to keep them)

Nope, didn't even occur to me. I just got my pals to pull them out with tweezers & tried not to freak out as there were ~20 of them :spew:

The rashes round two of them are getting quite impressive but haven't separated into the bullseye. My everything is crossed that it's just a bad reaction or something.

@Curio, I hate stomach pain more than almost any other. (Hate heidaches the most, they give me the fear)

I've just been doing the washing up and tried picking a bit of hard pasta off a pan.

Thing is, the pasta was hard and sharp and pointy and managed to go under my nail... about 2 cms under! Fuck me... that was painful!

Spoilered picture because it's freaking me out. :'(

As if the Smarty templating system has an error in the demo files it comes with and they still haven't done anything about it:

http://www.smarty.net/forums/viewtopic. ... cabfae7ee5

Dicks.

Still, at least now I can put "Experience with Smarty" on my CV and get on with writing a database class that handles multiple DB servers.

Fun fun fun* :D

Done!

And yeah, I guess so. This isn't that deep - it's all fairly simple stuff (although I've added a nice debug idea to my logs which I'm going to implement at work tomorrow).

Here's hoping you avoid the full-on Lyme's disease. Was the Tick-horror revelation as grim as that bit with the leaches in Stand By Me?

Anonymous X, hope your girlfriend's sister is going to be okay. That sounds a bit serious. Thoughts an' that with you guys.

Thanks.

She's better now that she has been given the right medication, and has gone home from the specialist hospital. She gets free healthcare now, which helps. She told my girlfriend that she didn't need to come over and visit, which probably indicates that everything is OK-ish now.

They climbed into bed with me (the ticks, not the animals*), them's the risks with wild camping in bivvy bags.

Didn't get the job I was interviewed for. Had feedback, and they were very impressed and it was clear I knew my stuff, but the job was a lot more development-focused than the advertisement said and they simply found someone with a bit more experience there.

However, given development isn't my strong point and they were still strongly considering me, I'm a lot more confident about my employability. And it was my first interview in 5 years, so I haven't done too badly.

I'll keep looking.

Ask them to keep you in mind for any future vacancies, and say (if true) that you would be happy to train up your development skills.

Just flutter your eyelashes, you'll be fine! Like I said, there's always Tesco; or M&S if you're feeling really special....

Good luck though, it would've been nice to get that job but at least you can take a whole lot of positives from the experience. Oversell yourself, once you're through the door it's unlikely they'd notice or do anything about it, unless you are a complete belming mong....on second thoughts.... :p

Aye, getting a job on my first interview would be quite an achievement for me. But I guess the more interviews I have the more used to them and the more relaxed & confident I'll get. I'm not what you'd call a particularly extroverted person.

Anyway, the upper bracket of that job would have been an almost 150% pay rise, so it was perhaps a little bit of a long shot! The fact I got so close is making me quite happy even if I didn't get the job.

The recruiter has said he'll keep an eye out for more jobs now he knows me and knows I'm serious and actually employable. Seems like a decent guy.

Ha, I like that. Belming mong. It sounds like it ought to be an aristocratic family's hyphenated surname.

Sir Henry Belming-Mong has a certain ring to it, don't you think?

Over the last ten days, I've suffered a ridiculous run of bad luck. In reverse chronological order, I have:

1. Got soaked by a BMW driver splashing through a puddle.
2. Cost my pool team a victory by playing like an arse.
3. Accidentally poured a load of stout over my wife's head.
4. Accidentally had my front teeth knocked out during an extremely boozy stag night. Painful and expensive dental work will start in earnest on Wednesday.

I entirely expect an anvil to be dropped on my head tomorrow.

And he's cooking for Meal & Movie tomorrow as well, so I'll probably be poisoned - moments before a malfunctioning blu-ray player fires out the disc and scalps the lot of us as it ricochets off the walls of his snug living room.

I'm pretty sure Jesus had a Yorkshire accent. He did when people quoted him in Sunday School when I was a kid.

Why can't GIMP have a proper searchable Help system like most other software? I know it's free, but FFS, it's a pain to find anything in Help.
