I don't think I've ever seen a progress bar move so slow...

Since I updated to Froyo 2.2 (With the help of everyone in this thread, thank you all!) I’ve pretty much gained an extra 50% on my battery life.

I don’t think I’m imagining it either. I’ve used it loads this week and haven’t had to charge it as much as I did when it was Orange branded.

Also… I had problems before with turning the phone off, sometimes it would have the shutting down screen for a couple of hours. Now, it shuts down in a flash!

The biggest leap I've ever had PC wise was from XP to Vista

FroYo came through for me on T-mobile a week or so ago. I like the new update options, and the battery life is indeed improved.

What are the rules on what apps you can and can't move to your SD card?

Im on o2 and I don't have any o2 stuff on it.

Is it worth rooting?

I'm thinking of rooting my Desire later. It's on Orange at the mo and I want Froyo 2.2 Can someone help? Vision: Root your phone usng the link you provided. I did the radio first, then the Froyo. While my contacts were already backed up on Google, I didn't back owt else up, and everything was still there very nicely when I finished upgrading. Whole process, once I knew what I was doing and got started, took half an hour tops. Makes hacking a PSP (the old, easy way) look like successfully 100%ing uplink. I'm leaving out something here though - your original rom will want backing up so you can restore to factory for warranty repairs, and I'm unsure exactly how I got the software on my phone to do the backup so I'm not going to give you half the instructions. Study XDA forums and it'll probably make more sense to you than it did to me. I HAVE A T-MOBILE PHONE AND SO DOES DAVPAZ. IT WORKED FOR US.

Rather it rips off that networked unlicensed ripoff Scrabble game that was popular on Facebook a few years back. So rip-rip-rip-off-off-off.

I'm done! That was easy enough and now I've got rid of all the Orange crap on my phone! No longer have I got Photo next to Photos. Anyone who's got a Desire on Orange will know what the internet button looks like. Now, I hated having the Orange one on my homescreen but... no more! Check out the screen shot below! It's now a lovely blue colour!

Apparently people are working on making a port of the Desire HD rom to the Desire. Main advantage I saw was that it has a 3 second boot/shutdown time. That's 3 seconds to be completely up and running. Impressive stuff.

All roms get that response, they're meaningless if you think abut how different each phone user's processor load must be. I would go with Google's '2.2 improves battery performance' claims as they would be the best people to say whether their OS manages power consumption better or not.

Would anyone have any use for Keyboard Manager? It requires root and is really fiddly to install, but it allows you to have two different keyboards depending on the phones' orientation.

There's still no official FroYo for the Galaxy S, but there's a wide variety of leaked releases on XDA. Unfortuantely, each release appears to be accompanied by someone saying that the battery life is a vast improvement on what they had before, and someone else saying that their battery is much worse. I guess I'll stick with Eclair for the moment.

Wow, I've just heard from a friend that he was so impressed with my Desire that he's bought his own! He now wants me to root it and update it.. It's on Vodaphone where as mine was on Orange. I'm presuming that the guide I posted links to above will do the trick? What does everyone (or just GorvernmentYard and Dazpaz) think?

The only reason I rooted was to get rid of the Orange branding but if you don't have any, I wouldn't bother. The only apps that I've found that need a rooted phone are a backup app and a screen shot app. Useful for sure, but hardly ground breaking.
