Got home from school and found out my child had been in detention for not doing the reading thing I mentioned last time. She did do the reading thing, I wrote it all down in her reading record. The teacher that put her in detention even added a new book and signed it so she had to have seen my entries. Didn't just bitch about it on the internet, called the teacher responsible and had a go at her about it. Teacher wants to see the reading record on monday (fine by me) and actually had the nerve to try and twist it round like it was a good thing and call it a reading club, when in reality she needs to apologise to my daughter.

1) I can tolerate vampires. As my friend Nervous Pete said to MrsA "The aristocracy of the undead".
2) I haven't read the books, nor bothered with the films.
3) I don't know where the Pacific Northwest is, but if Twilight involves boats and the sea, it could be OK. I like boats and the sea.
4) I'd never trust a Grauniad person about what qualifies as 'cool music'. Pacific Northwest seems to be about trees. I quite like trees. I'm not terribly disciminating about cold, bleak foggy environment. I live in Bingley, ffs.
5) I dunno what an anti-sex, pro Mormon subtext is, nor could I probably write one if I wanted to. I like boats and the sea, more though. Apart form Master and Commander. That was shit. Nervous Pete was wrong about that. Don't trust him.
6) Films aimed atgirls and women? I guess they've to watch something whilst sewing.
7) Superhero junk isn't just for boys. I'm sure some are heterosexual. Like Aquaman.
I wasn't gawky or awkward from 16-22. I was awesomely fit, with long hair (then short hair) and did my best work then. Mostly in the wrong areas, mind you, but such is life.
9) I don't believe in souls, as it raises the most awkward philosophical and anatomical questions and tends to upset people. Like Aquaman. ANd Nervous Pete when he talks about 'Master and Commander'.
10) I don't think about girls that I knew in college anymore. Most of them have husbands who are clearly a mere shadow of my 16-22 year old self. It is clearly a defence mechanism that got them married and pregnant.
11) "Half courage and awkwardness"? Went out with a lass once, and she said that she wasn't going to shave her legs as something to do with empowerment and the dominance of male ideals on the female form. I got rid of her then next day and hooked up with a chick with an eating disorder and a coke habit. It was awesome.
12) Oh, fuck! The blokes writing a teenage book about a superhero. Who is probably shy and awkward around girl form the age of 16-22. And is a journalist or something.

Master and Commander is a great film.

Lunch time beers always bring out MaliA's best work.

I liked it too. Bettany was pretty much exactly as I imagined Maturin to be. I wouldn't have made that book into the film though.
