I'm not going to celebrate the death of the individual because they is crass and uncivilised – what I hate us what the individual did, and the long term negative socio-economic consequences of their actions. Issues not personalities, as an octogenarian radical left-winger used to say.

I feel a bit sad by it really, it's another part of my childhood dead irrespective of if you liked her or not.

Seems fairly pathetic to me. a bunch of people jumping on the (anti)popularity band wagon to celebrate the death of someone who left power before most of them were born.

Yep. Why not capitalise on this fervour of 'revolution' and political activism and try to do something positive? Even get someone to record a protest song about the current government and how they carry her mantle. Wouldn't be hard and might actually make some people care. Just laughing and turning Thatcher into a ridiculous caricature so you can laugh that an elderly, senile grandmother is now dead just strikes me as pathetic and worthy of nothing but scorn.

If Hitler had just died there would be celebrations. And many people in Britain and Northern Ireland do actually consider Thatcher to be on par to Hitler or any other remorseless tyrant.

EDIT: note I'm stating the observation that some people are celebrating Thatcher's death as if she was a Hitler, not saying IMO that Thatcher was Hitler mk 2, important difference...

Which of course is all a bit of a myth as when the cabinet papers were finally released a couple of years ago it was revealed she was actually against cutting school milk but shouldered the blame for a decision taken at a cabinet vote. Collective responsibility etc.

Idiots.

The line on the radio was that the police will facilitate protest but not disorder. Which seemed fair to me.

Folks will complain about the cost, but how many more Police will be needed to watch the protesters, that will push the cost up..

I do love a good church funeral. Much like a church wedding, you have a sing song, a couple of nice stories and then you have some wine and a bicuit and a bit more singing then everyone has a party. I found teh church christening to be a bit dull and preachy, but they didn't give me any wine or a biscuit.

From the gruaniad

Quote:
Samuel Tuck was waiting till the service was over to deliver a bouquet if flowers from his parents, Jim and Jan. Why? "It's because of right to buy. They bought their house for £17,000 and raised all of us in it. She changed everything for us."

The house, a Victorian property in the now-fashionable south London suburb of East Dulwich, had been extended and improved by the family, who are in the building trade, Tuck said. It was now valued at close to £1m, he said.

It's a real parable for out times, and a story Thatcher herself would presumably approve of.

I just went down to Trafalgar Square, to see if there was anything protesty going on there. There was a single man, dressed as a leprechaun and carry a placard saying something about Jesus forming a one world government, dancing about to Irish folk music. There were about five coppers watching him.
