Yeah - he got arrested for various things as well, didn't he? As well as pissing off the neighbours and such. £10 million would keep me happy and not needing to work for the rest of my life. Someone nominated that rude post for BEEX week. I think they may heave meant to alert a mod but instead selected BEEX Week. In anycase I emailed them back telling them that I am not in charge of BEEX Week this week. Unless you want the next BEEX Week to be in the form of a 200 line BASIC type-in which is my next idea for a "concept" BEEX Week. |

Done my good samaritan bit for the day. I was just settling down to watch TV with a gin and tonic, and I heard this voice bellowing "I SAY, MAY I ASK FOR SOME ASSISTANCE" and a banging on the door It's pissing down with rain. Like, instant saturation. Standing in the porch is an elderly chap, with a wooden leg. Looked like this He explains, (at some length as he seems to have Asperger's or something as well) that he'd been driving home from Dundee when he met the bad weather, and his windscreen wiper had stopped working. Turned off the road, landed here, can I help? The wiper wasn't just not working, it was hanging off the side of the car at a jaunty angle. Still, 10 minutes to find a new nut to hold it on, good as new. I also figured out the obscure heater controls to get the screen demisted as well, since it wasn't, and he'd literally been driving with his head sticking out of the side window to see where he was going. It was a weird tiny plastic car with an air cooled diesel engine and hand operated brake and throttle, looked like it would do about 40 mph tops. Anyway, job done. I can haz drink nao? |

Behold! I am quite drunk. Tonight I kissed Polish girl. Sort of. And then she texted to say sorry for acting weird, and some other things. And then while we were texting each other about stuff and I was about to tuck into some (actual, from home) chicken and London 'chicken' shop chips, I checked my email. I have an email from someone I was living with a couple of years ago. I no doubt blathered on about it here at some point. She's basically sorry and wants to be friends. I should sober up frst, right? |

Are there any decent sites left for "abandonware" now that the likes of GOG have bought up the rights to things I was otherwise able to download for free (e.g. Jagged Alliance, the XCOMs) without threat of ESA or whoever suing me? |

http://www.abandonia.com/ is the closest thing. Home of the Underdogs was also (fuckin' finally) resurrected at http://homeoftheunderdogs.net/ a couple of years ago, but after such a long period of stasis and since gog proved that they were right about most people wanting to buy them if possible, they've gone pretty quiet again since. I doubt either of them would do xcom or JA though, as they're not abandonware anymore. Edit: Huh, interesting. Try http://www.hotud.org - seems to be more complete than the other HOTU site. Not sure what's going on there. I will have to do some investigatin'. I've been meaning to write a toast to HOTU for ages actually - they combined games and archiving, two of my favourite things, and they did it all for free while the games industry sat by doing nothing. Re-edit: Ah, now it's coming back to me - the first site is where the original HOTU is being recreated after the original owner let it stagnate for years and lost the domain a couple of times. The second site is where some other people started anew, concentrating on the original idea rather than recreating the old site itself. The latter appears to be a better resource at the moment. |

Zio wrote: ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view! Anyway, that Rebekah Brooks, eh? Had to go really. Evil. I've sort of followed what's gone on with you and your ex Zio, but don't know all the ins and outs of it. I've never been one to advocate a couple that fundamentally isn't working any more staying together 'for the sake of the children', but children do certainly change the framework that both parties (plus the child of course) have to live within. Is it all obliterated and finished? Is there anything left of each other that the other still loves? Then there's the question as to who got fucked over by whom and how many times, who can forgive, who needs to forgive, and will anyone say sorry? (I note from an earlier post of yours that you felt you were due an apology that was never forthcoming.) Sometimes a relationship needs to end and there is no other option, but equally there can be an alternative path sometimes. Sorry if I'm intruding here but your post is very honest and really quite heartbreaking. |

Thanks, chap - I've used those sites, but I guess my main bugbear was the previously free stuff now getting snapped up for resale rights. I suppose the only way to get them for free is to torrentz them, and I don't do that. |
