Other than the peanuts. However, after last night's cheese and wine thing I have a load of cheese. And wine.

What pop did you dilute your wine with?

FFS, you're not very good at this.

That would be an ecumenical matter.

Amusingly, I've half an inkling it is a woman's jacket.

Had watch, my second viewing of the film. I'm warming to it a bit, haven't been al "huh?" first time. Although the classic status escapes me, to be honest.

I want to find whoever programmed excel and beat them over the head with a big dusty tome repeatedly. Trying to do an index of royal visits to Cardiff dating from 1860's and the pissin' thing won't sort in order anything before 1900. It's just a simple spreadsheet of Date - Monarch - Location - Description, what's the beef excel? >:(

Been looking online for solutions and they all involve incomprehensible formulas or things I can't download and install. Rrrgh!

Suburban cocktail bar in wimbledon: Is this actually a club? Because I get the distinct feeling I'm being had. A bar is a fun night out. A club is 100% guaranteed to be the most tedious, irritating, rippy-offy night out of the year.

Went to Atomic Burger in Cowley this evening. Venue was like TV21 in Nanchester, awesome. Food was awesome. Service was awesome. Company was awesome. Recommended. I'll take a photo of the menu I took home. If you fill it with stickers, you get a prize. The waitress also gave me an extra slice of pie for being a mighty space pirate. I tipped her well as she was awesome.

Didn't go in the end. Friend's birthday, yes, and I'd love to see her, but 2 hours there, 2 hours back (at least), and maybe if I'm lucky 2 hours there not wishing they'd turn the music off and tell all these sweaty dickheads to go home.

Sadly I think the forum just stepped down a gear from being a place where debate is opened with welcome arms, to a place where a few people can scream, shout and slag off posters in order to stifle any debate.

I'm not sure locking the thread is a mature response from the 'moderation team' - we're all adults, we know the internet can be a bit of a frisky place, just leave us to it, we'll cope.

It's a temporary lock to let people chill the fuck out for a few minutes.

Also, that thread isn't frisky or adult. It is, in places, downright disgusting.

Adults don't always behave like adults, we're emotional creatures, we say stupid things sometimes, the point is we're all choosing as adults to browse and post here, if you want to treat people like children, get a job at a nursery.

Yes that debate has been somewhat heated on both sides at times, but hey, that's discussion for you, no one's forced to take part.

It's not frisky. It's descended into utter cuntery. If you want the equivalent of internet bare knuckle fighting then this isn't the place.

Come on, open up the thread! I want to call Cavey and Gaywood cunts!!! Then declare I'm too mature for that thread, and bow out gracefully. Then call Cavey the lap-eared son of a double-cunted whore in the postscript. I love that insult. S'practically Shakespeare.

Temporary thread-locking for a few hours has been used to great effect to give people a chance to calm down in the past.

Don't forget the bit where you leave it a couple of months before jumping into a separate thread and then start fighting with your previous sparring partner.

You want to behave like children, you get treated like children. You(*) want to debate each other's opinions, that's fine. You want to start throwing massive amounts of abuse at people because of their opinions, expect to get asked to stop.

I'm not concerned about you. I'm concerned about the many excellent posters who might want to contribute to a discussion but aren't, because they're scared they'll get their head bitten off because they hold a particular opinion.

(* - nonspecific 'you', that applies to everyone throwing their weight around in that thread)

A thread about the death of a young woman that could/should have been a discussion about the dangers of drugs and the very real impact they have on human lives turned into a personal slagging match.

Some people need to go back over that thread and read what they said back to themselves out loud.

Bollocks.

It descended into 'cuntery' when certain people made certain statements last night, and the debate has continued since then.

It's an emotive subject, so people get emotional, like I said, no one's forced to take part or even read it, everyone was in that thread by choice, which is the way it should be.

Censorship and/or stifling of debate isn't the answer, bit shite for BEEX to play that card TBH.

People aren't hurting each other because they disagree on the actual topic, but because they are flinging around really vicious insults at other members.

Therefore the rules of the forum have been broken. The rule.

I don't care whether people love or hate Amy Winehouse, but stop treating each other with such bilious angry mudslinging.

Beex is not, nor should it be, a free for all; "light touch" moderation is not the same as "no moderation". There are limits.

Not sure where these vicious insults are apart from Cavey's outburst and you made your post in the thread before he did that.

Maybe people have realised that their posts are read by more than the in crowd and this can only be a good thing if they think before being pointlessly nasty in the future.

I find it comical that people are complaining about aggressive posts bearing in mind the way the in crowd treated JC. Your utopian view of keeping it all in one thread certainly did not apply then.

Edit: Ignore the first sentence I think I understand now.

Was this being asked of me? If so, it built up from calling people trolls, to 'disgusting human being' and then tumbled onwards and got worse from there.

There's a lot mentioned about empathy and understanding in that thread, but though some posters are shocked at the negative things said about Amy Winehouse, someone that most will have no personal connection with, there isn't much holding back from saying negative things about each other, in an Internet community where many people have made friends both online and in real life. If someone had called Amy Winehouse a 'disgusting human being' some posters would have got very upset, but slinging that around at each other…

I don't know if this bit was directed to me, as I guess it was me that mentioned the aggressive posts, but if it is, I don't know who the 'in' crowd is, if I'm thought to be in it, or what happened with JC. I wasn't around at the time, and only found out he'd left some time after, so I'm unsure of the relation to what happened today.

No, none of it was directed at you. My comments were directed towards Chinny, I should have quoted him. Sorry about that.

It was Chinny who claimed that BETEO was a place for debate that no matter how heated did not carry over to other threads. I was just pointing out the nonsense in that statement with a piece of history. The in crowd are the hardcore of people who make 90% of the posts on this forum.

That's ok. I wondered as I used the term 'vicious insults' in both threads, so thought you were asking me :)

On a related note, has anyone ever done clay pigeon shooting? I've been making random holes in biys of card with a 22 rifle for a bit, and that's fun, so I wouldn't mind trying to blast small fragile discs out of the sky as well.

I do that, sometimes. I used to be a CPSA referee when I was younger. Try it! It's much fun.
