Went to Atomic Burger in Cowley this evening. Venue was like TV21 in Nanchester, awesome. Food was awesome. Service was awesome. Company was awesome. Recommended. I'll take a photo of the menu I took home. If you fill it with stickers, you get a prize. The waitress also gave me an extra slice of pie for being a mighty space pirate. I tipped her well as she was awesome.

Didn't go in the end. Friend's birthday, yes, and I'd love to see her, but 2 hours there, 2 hours back (at least), and maybe if I'm lucky 2 hours there not wishing they'd turn the music off and tell all these sweaty dickheads to go home.

Sadly I think the forum just stepped down a gear from being a place where debate is opened with welcome arms, to a place where a few people can scream, shout and slag off posters in order to stifle any debate.

I'm not sure locking the thread is a mature response from the 'moderation team' - we're all adults, we know the internet can be a bit of a frisky place, just leave us to it, we'll cope.

It's a temporary lock to let people chill the fuck out for a few minutes.

Also, that thread isn't frisky or adult. It is, in places, downright disgusting.

Adults don't always behave like adults, we're emotional creatures, we say stupid things sometimes, the point is we're all choosing as adults to browse and post here, if you want to treat people like children, get a job at a nursery.

A thread about the death of a young woman that could/should have been a discussion about the dangers of drugs and the very real impact they have on human lives turned into a personal slagging match.

Some people need to go back over that thread and read what they said back to themselves out loud.

It descended into 'cuntery' when certain people made certain statements last night, and the debate has continued since then.

It's an emotive subject, so people get emotional, like I said, no one's forced to take part or even read it, everyone was in that thread by choice, which is the way it should be.

Not sure where these vicious insults are apart from Cavey's outburst and you made your post in the thread before he did that.

Maybe people have realised that their posts are read by more than the in crowd and this can only be a good thing if they think before being pointlessly nasty in the future.

There's a lot mentioned about empathy and understanding in that thread, but though some posters are shocked at the negative things said about Amy Winehouse, someone that most will have no personal connection with, there isn't much holding back from saying negative things about each other, in an Internet community where many people have made friends both online and in real life. If someone had called Amy Winehouse a 'disgusting human being' some posters would have got very upset, but slinging that around at each other…
