Gets a 10/10 from Eurogamer:

I really enjoyed Far Cry 2 despite the problems. I am all over this one. Does anyone want to buy a cheap copy of CODBLOPS 2?

This one wasn't on my radar at all as I never bothered with Far Cry 2 but that review makes it sound excellent. I like me some stealth so that's mostly what's doing it for me but I can't deny that the story about the random rescue leopards is increasing my interest as well. Also:

Quote:
No-one or nothing is a match for you when you get going; when the game tells you that you need shark skin to upgrade your wallet capacity, you wade out into the ocean and punch the nearest Mako to death.

Excellent.

I also really enjoyed Far Cry 2. It was flawed in many ways, but it had a certain something about it. Multiplayer was shite, mind.

FC2 showed great promise, but was ultimately a stinker. The magic enemies who could target you perfectly through 10 metres of foliage, and the really awful feeling controls just killed it. Which is a shame as I loved FC1.

Will be giving FC3 a go, though.

I never had a problem with the enemies like that, though lots of people said they did. I think those people were just bad at the game.

MR Kissyfur knocked the nail on the head there. The game made sniper rifles redundant.... but still, I enjoyed it.

I shall be getting this when it's a bit cheaper.

Oh, I used them too, but it was fairly pointless because as soon as you fired, all local enemies were able to shoot you with pinpoint accuracy at the same range even if they were using pistols.

Nooo, nope. As the baddies could see through foliage. The only thing that worked was running around like a loon dodging bullets.

No, I didn't. Even when I couldn't see the enemy through the foliage they could still shoot blindly and hit me every time.

The 360 version, at least, was bollocks.

I'm with Mr Kissyfur again. No matter where I hid, or how far away I was, as soon as I fired a shot.. the bad guys crowded after me.

As am I. If you managed to pull off a perfect kill, then sometimes you remained hidden, but as the weapons were actually made of broken trash and had a habit of exploding, chances are that that wasn't going to work on more than three people before they suddenly became psychic.

I could be tempted if it contains none of the following:
- Malaria
- Psychopathic enemies
- Psychic enemies
- Malaria
- Exploding weapons
- Malaria

Far Cry 2 was sod all to do with Far Cry 1, which I had on PC and enjoyed untl the Doctor Momreau fast things showed up and got me, then I got distracted by vaginas and never returned to it, though perhaps I should.

Far Cry 2 was an impulse buy on 360 and sod all to do with Far Cry 1, I don't even think I was magic in the second one. I recall hiding in bushes to raid camps for some reason, there's a warlord wh is evil and I'm just naughty or that. I spent a lot of time being badgered to do stuff in this supposedly open world and getting to where some NPc I had no connection to wanted me to go usually involved getting theough roadblocks which would take up all my ammo and patience and guns.

So this one's better, eh? Am I a jungle wizard in it like number one? Is it fun?

I got a free copy of Far Cry 2 with a graphics card, (a real physical disc in the box), not even sure which graphics card it was, either way I never bothered to install it 'cause I'd read enough negative commentary on it to not want to bother.

Far Cry 3 looks very interesting though. One to pick up in a Steam sale when:

a) It's dirt cheap

and

b) The bugs have been fixed.

Instincts was indeed a good game. Scramming people to death like a crazed chavette was a lot of fun. The flailing suicide mutants were a bit annoying but come on... the game gave us this classic piece of artwork.

It does look like it could be quite good, but just got huge amounts in the steam sale, so will have to wait.

I've also not heard about any malaria occuring in it, which can only be a good thing, or any of the other faults I found with FC2.

That's included in "the other faults I found with FC2."
Rumour be that such issues are now not such issues.

And we all know your main reason for disliking it wasn't the malaria, nor the psychic super accurate guards, but the use of the word "Buddy".

My favourite (aka most hated) thing about FC2 is how great the guards are at stopping a BADDY. You're in a country that's split up into factions, right, but is also full of people. PEOPLE. Presumably people are allowed to drive on the roads between towns? After all, they don't shoot you in town when you get there. Maybe there's a curfew? Maybe no one is allowed on the open roads? Well what about other guards? Surely there's more than one guard patrol.....

so why, when a guard-packed jeep crests a hill 2 miles away and occupies about 2pixels on your screen, do they somehow a) see you and b) ascertain that you are a BADDY and not a PERSON or ANOTHER GUARD? What makes them get so enraged that they charge across the open countryside like a bull to a red flag, crashing though everything that's on the bee-line towards you? Sometimes hilariously smacking into immobile objects, causing them to smash about like a pinball.

WHAT DID I DO TO MAKE THEM SO ANGRY? I WAS ONLY LOOKING AT THE ZEBRAS. I'M SORRY I'LL STOP LOOKING AT THE ZEBRAS, JUST LEAVE ME ALONE.

Why do they always feel the need to add multiplayer? It's obvious that it's never going to be massively popular in the face of Wank of Cunty et al, just spend all that time/money on the proper bits.

That post isn't dated, therefore you've just written it now based off of my idea. Pay me £2 royalties or I'LL SUE.

Also: There was some other game with lots of jungle that had this problem. Possibly Soldier of Fortune 2? I played the demo and thought, due to this reason, that it was the shittest game in existence.

It's amazing how much 'MMO' is creeping into games these days (and by MMO I actually mean 'WoW'), talent trees, professions, crafting, gathering materials, experience points and so on.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, although it is clearly designed to increase the longevity of games to keep people around for the DLC more than anything else. (In the same way that WoW wants to keep people playing for the subscriptions.)

Borderlands 2 is another, seriously, it's the solo side of WoW switched to an FPS perspective.

My point here is that WoW players get derided as the nerds of the gaming landscape who just like to grind and don't appreciate 'proper' games somehow, and yet everyone is cheerfully buying into the MMO/WoW template in just about every single damn game that gets released.
