Acer are ok too I think. My housemate has one that's been going for years now. I agree about graphics up to a point- I was surprised that my little intel GMA950 based netbook could run world of warcraft, but proper is better. I wouldn't buy Asus, though, and I would look for Core 2 Duo based intel rather than AMD, but that's just me.

The Intel chips run cooler and faster. As pointed out elsewhere on the forum today, AMD are so far behind since the advert of dual core that they aren't worth bothering with. Cheap and cheerful.

Proper GPU is better as more and more apps use the GPU. Depends on what you are doing. Certainly with my apps I hit a brick wall with renders taking several hours due to the lack of GPU. But for standard stuff integrated is OK.

As for a Steve Jobs fanboy, can't stand the man. However the Pro models are the one thing that Apple have got right, although the Macbook Pro is overpriced by about 300 quid. It is however design perfection and I had a load of Windows fanboys wetting themselves when I showed them Parallels run XP on the OSX desktop in the week.

Went for an Acer in the end. This one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0010X94O4

Seemed like a decent spec for the money, I didn't want to spend over £400, and I REALLY didn't want to spend over £500. On balance I thought with a Core 2 Duo and the GeForce 8600 it was the best balance of price and performance.

Plus, it has a € key, a $ key and a "subwoofer" about as big as a £2 coin! Deal clinchers in themselves (not).

It looks like a really nice laptop :) I'm sure it'll do everything you want, and play games pretty well too.

I've had two Acer laptops - the second is doing fine, the first overheated after about three years when the fan broke. Check your BIOS to make sure it will shut itself down (mine didn't, and melted part of the keyboard).

I have installed Everest to keep an eye on all my temperatures. Fingers crossed there'll be no overheating melting incidents!

Went to Tesco's the other day and found oodles of DVD's for a fiver and CD's! Trips to Tesco excite me as I can't drive and my friend takes me up there now and again, simple things after all...

THEY HAD DAVID BOWIE CD'S AND EVERYTHING! :D

I got BK new from game for £12.99 a couple of weeks back, though don;t know if that offers still on.

Also: I walked past a Woolworths today that had a big sign saying that the Wii had price dropped to £159.

Big discounts on selected 360 DLC until the end of October -- including some Forza car packs, Beatiful Katamari stuff, and Shivering Isles.

Shivering Isles is... there. It's okay, but I'd try to pick up the disc version for cheapness myself, what with DLC not really being discounted and temporary and all that.

ALL XCOM Games for $13.49 from Steam...supposedly they have confirmed they will all work with Vista. If that is not a bargain (I mean how much is 13 dollars worth? A bag of midget gems?) I dont know what is.

I made a thread about it actually, I thought it justified it's own thread.

Should have posted here too really.

Edit: By my maths, it's £23.25, since we have to pay VAT on top of that too.

Oh! Sorry Lewie, managed to miss that somehow. Curse my eyes, etc. I did factor in VAT, but unfortunately not how much the exchange rate has gone down the shitter lately.

EDIT: Anyway, how's this for a bargain (if it's true): Morrisons are apparently flogging 360 and PS3 games for £25 next week, and Wii and DS games are supposed to be going for £15 and £12 respectively (chart titles only).

Argos have a 2-for-£45 offer on a bunch of games; they're mostly cack (or available elsewhere cheaper) but two highlights are Civ Rev and CoD4 (which I believe is the GotY edition even though it doesn't say so on their site).

I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but I don't think I followed up to say that I got the GotY edition (although I guess you're not guaranteed to get it) and there's nothing to stop you from getting 2 copies of the same game (as long as you can find someone to flog the other copy to, COD4 for £22.50 is quite a bargain).

Apparently. Is it any good though? I picked up Battlefield Bad Company for 25.

Just did a quick search for Morrisons "chart" and found someone speculating on:

mercenaries 2
too human
tiger woods 2009
soul caliber 4
c&c kanes wrath
battlefied bad company
grand theft auto 4
viva pinata trouble in paradise

Edit: Hmm, Eurogamer gave it 5/10 with an average reader rating of 4.3/10
Edit edit: what Mark said.

According to Eurogamer Mercenaries 2 is a bit shit, which is a shame as I was rather looking forward to it. BF Bad Company is ok, I wouldn't have paid any more than £25 though.
