And some info on 25/11's DLC:

http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/11/gui ... o-roc.html

Quote:
Both Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band will add downloadable tracks from The Killers later this month, say Activision and Harmonix.

Each game will get three of the Las Vegas band's tracks on November 25, the day that its new album Day and Age hits stores.

You'll be able to download two singles from Day and Age ("Human" and "Losing Touch") on World Tour, as well as the classic "Mr. Brightside."

Representatives of MTV told Wired.com that three Killers songs would appear on the Rock Band music store on the same day: "Mr. Brightside," Smile Like You Mean It" and "Spaceman," the latter another new single from Day and Age.

So in anticipation of Friday's release of RB2, I thought I'd check out some of the songs in the tracklist that I'm not familiar with. Like Visions, by Abnormality:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!

Bloody hell. They've taken the "Rock Band Was Too Easy" criticism to heart, haven't they?

Quite odd they've picked an unsigned fairly mediocre brutal death metal band. I would've liked to see Suffocation or Deeds of Flesh instead.

I can see two possible reasons for that:

1) Death Metal bands take themselves far too seriously, and don't want to 'sell out' to a kiddie toy.

2) They don't want to spend actual money on a song that 99% of their customer base will hate, and only ever play once, when they can get exactly the same from an unsigned band for fuck all.

Gerroff. Metal Blade did an in-house GH-off between members of Cannibal Corpse.

Considering one of the three Siouxsie tracks is bleeding "Kiss Them for Me" then not only do we need much more, but they owe us much more.

And if we do get any Sisters I hope they include some tracks from "Some Girls Wander by Mistake" and "First and Last and Always".

Did I mention that "Kiss Them for Me" wasn't very good?

Much as I love the Sisters, I can't see them being fun songs to play in Rock Band.

Tower Of Strength would be awesome, mind.

Finished the drum tour on easy!

Man, that was good fun. I nearly had a heart attack in the middle of Green Grass And High Tides, though. Good Gravy, that's a bit of a jump in difficulty, innit?

I have to say that the Rock Band DLC is pissing on GH at the moment. A good thing probably, as I'd be wazzing all my money on this otherwise.

145 songs we've got listed on the disk now, including the original tracklist. That's, what, £90 or so in DLC? Harmonix are evil geniuses.

If they had a 'A Bit Folky, A bit Pop, And All Before 1979 Band' I'd probably spend a bit more moolah. not that we haven;'t, we've bought quite a lot DLC, but if they had a bit of Cat Stevens/Simon and Garfunkle type stuff I'd love it. It's a shame they can't expand to different genres a bit.

One of the Harmonix guys was promising to expand beyond rock in future DLC. He said they have plans for country and hip-hop, for example.

Thread "Country coming to RB2 in December" on the Rock Band forums:
HMXHenry wrote:
As with any announcement / advertisement / rumor / "leak" that comes from anywhere other than these forums, please don't get all worked up about something unless it's officially been announced by HMX. Until then it's safe to say that anything else you hear should be taken with a grain of salt.

Furthermore, this thread blows my mind. With so many genres represented in Rock Band already, why would the addition of Country be such a huge shock? We'll have Country in RB sooner or later. Ideally we'll have all the various sub genres that people are clamoring for (hardcore punk, goth, ska, etc) eventually. We haven't shut the door on anything.
Note the "HMX" in his posting name means this guy works at Harmonix.

Acoustic stuff feels completey different to play than the usual run of songs in RB. It's a fun change of pace, and personally I find it surprisingly tricky - Wonderwall f'rinstance, or Walking After You.

So YES. More folk plz.

rock band 2 is very fun fun fun so far, setlist has been excellent so far.

Now the game isnt split into difficultys, and all games even single player mode is presented in the world tour mode.

so for example you want to play single player guitar, you go on tour, make your person and yoru band name then go in a similar world tour as before, and on each song you can pick which difficulty you want to play on which will be excellent when your struggling on a song.

I'd certainly welcome some variation in genres for Rock Band - it's one of the things the early Guitar Freaks games were good for. You had tracks like Aficion (Spanish guitar), Jazzy Cat (which was, er, kind of jazzy), Happy Man (Punk), Chicago Blues etc among the usual rock tracks and it breaks things up nicely. I don't want to sit and play one rock anthem after the next.

I'd actually like to see Gerdundula from Status Quo in there but I think I'm about the only one.

actually it could be a good thing to release during when the beatles game comes out. A history of guitar music or something, possibly some old bluegrass/folk stuff to rock n roll, jazz, and so on until the present rather than playing as an upcoming band.

I think a lot depends on what master tapes are available; for example, I assume not all of the Hendrix masters are intact, hence the use of live versions in GH:WT. I'm pretty sure both games' developers are committed to only using original recordings instead of covers (whether it be master tracks or getting the band to re-record a song) -- good news for people who bitch and moan about the covers in RB1, bad news for people who just want to play the songs (and for WaveGroup Sound I guess).

Oh, and next week's DLC has been confirmed as above.

I had to stick Pretty Noose on to remind myself on how it went. I'd much rather have Rusty Cage on there instead.

I always felt that the covers in Guitar Hero were often better than the originals. Particularly the Incubus track.

Much as I respect your Doncaster-based Gothery, Guitar Hero was all about Smoke On The Water and Godzilla as any fule no.

Also: More Than A Feeling and Sharp-Dressed Man. Terrible songs, enormously fun to play.

Why is More Than A Feeling so fun to play anyway? And why, despite his claims, did MyFinger really not know the words, except for the chorus?

This needs to be in Rock Band -

God knows why someone's put the song to a load of film trailers, but you get the idea.

(mr big - daddy, brother, lover and little boy)

There was actually a cover of it in Guitar Freaks 4th Mix so it wouldn't be unheard of.
