99% of the time, CUS has something funny/intelligent/positive to say, but for a man with such a high postcount, his 1% can be quite a lot. He's never said anything that has directly or indirectly offended me, but I can see why some people would be upset by what he's saying some of the time, and I think recently his 99:1 split has shown disturbing tendencies towards making the 1% higher than it has been. I think this is probably the right decision and I hope he'll come back the better for it and not hold this against me.

This needs highlighting. When they're not actively modding, there should not be any further restrictions on a mod than anyone else and if I had been elected I'd have been stressing this pretty bloody strongly right now.

On the whole, I prefer this forum to WoS (although I haven't actually been there since the troubles, so it might have improved).

I do agree that there is a bit too much "fluff" though, mostly in the form of silly catchphrases. The only two that spring to mind at the moment are "Whatever, dick" and "MR INSERT-EMOTION FACE". The latter seems to have died out now (and I'll admit I used it a coupla times myself) but I never felt like either of those really add anything to the forum. The former might actually put people off as it looks to outsiders like dissenting opinions might be met with a "Whatever, dick". IYSWIM.

I don't really know what's been happening here, nor do I care. I don't generally get attached to places like this, they're just Internet sites. This one happens to be populated by people I (like to think I) get on well with.

Quick note: We've turned new user moderation on (for obvious reasons, but mainly so the mods can go and get some lunch) for a short time. If you're inviting mates or anything I thought you might like to know.

Personally, I hate both of those, too. Especially the later because anyone new to the place might understandably think that this place was full of people just calling each other names. Also, it's not very funny. I fully expect someone to quote me now and say 'whetever, dick' and it be so very funny, but on a serious note it doesn't come across as very nice and I think some people use it in heated debates and it is hard to know how to take it, whether actually meant genuinely or not.

I think the thing about five people removing CUS from their XBox accounts though... Well, was that all agreed upon by people to do it all at once? If so that's a bit unfair I think (if it was an arranged actin by a group of people, rather than individuals, of course). Not a very nice way to teach someone a lesson, and didn't something like that happen on WoS as well?

I tend to lurk here more than anything, but I don't understand why so many of you are making excuses for CUS.

I find him terribly self obsessed and arrogant. He seems to hijack every single thread to talk about himself (his favourite subject). He is hugely aggressive to anyone who disagrees with him about anything. Now over the past couple of days he seems to have set himself up as sole arbiter of what people can and cannot talk about. This whole forum has become dominated by him recently, and that is not a good thing.

I don't actually read enough of the threads on here to know what's going on (I tend to pick anything that looks interesting off the front page and end up not reading most of them) in any great detail, but it's a shame that such a happy, lovely place has started to have so much drama so quickly.

To echo what others have said - it's a shame, but a period of sober reflection is possibly for the best for everyone and I sincerely hope it'll all come out in the wash. From the periphery CUS seems a good chap if a little bit excitable, and Dimmers even moreso.

I've got nothing against CUS, and think that a lot of the time he's interesting and a good person to have in the community. Recently though he's been getting more 'spikey' and disruptive, and seems to have been delighting in causing conflict. I'm not sure why this is, but I too sometimes ("all the time! Ha ha!" - ed) can be an annoying and contrary bugger, so if he's having a bad week then fair enough. Hopefully he'll come back and be less, well, 'spikey'.

And the sooner Dimmers feels better, the better :metul:

I cannot find it. he did say something about being removed from a number of people's xbox live accounts, I am certain, but talk of all of this stretches through so many threads that I can't find it and search isn't bringing it up either.

I don't know, it's making my head spin.

I don't know if banning CUS was the right solution, but this place is horrible at the moment, so I'm going to stick to the game thread and any other nice threads because I don't think anything I say is going to make any difference, anyway.

What fucks me off more than anything is that CUS' whining about the mafia thread has totally subdued the activity in the thread, which started off really strong and peaked the 'active users online' total a couple of days ago. It's not as excellent as normal, but I wouldn't say "horrible". I've been around the block a few times this is quite mild really. I don't think this place can be wrapped up in cotton wool but even the (other place - Ed) implosion was fairly tame compared to stuff that used to kick off in the old days on Usenet.

I only used the term 'ban' because that's how the Mods described it, really.

I just hope things go back to the way they were a few days ago - there was fun, a few activities (what with the game and photo threads) and also some sensible debating issues. Compared with today it does now seem 'horrible' in comparison, to me anyway. :(

Here's what we're going to do.

You chose us as mods, so our decision stands.

Once CUS has been allowed back to the forum, we will have a by-election. All mod positions will be once again up for grabs, allowing everyone to appropriately demonstrate their support or disgust for the last three months or so of moderating style in a democratic fashion.

I can't guarantee all the current mods will stand again, of course.

One thing it's worth mentioning by the way - it's not actually fun moderating this forum.

I've just read the whole thread now (both threads), and yes what I posted above was written before I read it all.

Having read them, I stand by it 100%. For whatever reason, CUS is being picked upon. I think it's for posting a lot, and being obnoxious.

So now, CUS and Dimrill have both gone, basically because people have been bitching in PMs. For fucks sake, grow up people! If CUS has actually SERIOUSLY abused anyone in PMs there may be a slight issue, but as you can ignore people it's not a major problem. There is NOTHING he's posted on this forum that warrants a warning, let alone a banning.

Thought they would, to be honest. I'm getting a strong feeling that there's a certain "sort" of person wanted here, and that I don't fit into it. Now, 2 of the 5 or so people I would genuinely miss from this place (excluding those I know personally) have gone, it would be less of a loss.
