Of course, in Rock Band the songs have to work, more or less, for all the parts so e.g. very long solos with boring drumbeats aren't viable. Free Bird wouldn't work in Rock Band as the singer would be pretty damned bored by the end.

Have you gotten a crack at Green Grass And High Tides yet? You've got time for the singer to boil an egg and make some toasty soldiers during the first solo. And then time to eat it in the second.

Why is there never any AC/DC in any of these games?

He's got time to rear the egg into chickens, encourage them to lay eggs, and use those eggs for eating. It really does go on a bit.

Thunderstruck would make for a decent Rock Band track I'd imagine. Although it'd be interesting to hear people attempt to mimic AC/DC vocals without it sounding like cat-strangling

Back when i had Drummania, the pedal on the kit I had for that broke too (it was only a cheapo Topway one) and I read that you could replaced it with a real drum kit pedal so I bought a Yamaha thingy and tried that. Unfortunately it worked in reverse in that it only triggered the pedal when you lifted your foot from it rather than pressing it which made it impossible.

We got inducted into the Hall Of Fame yesterday. Woooo!

Meanwhile, I've begun plugging through the guitar solo tour on Hard. It does a lot better job of easing you across from Medium than any of the GH games - the first couple of Hard songs barely use the fifth button. I'm still having a lot of "where the hell is my hand meant to be?" moments, it hasn't really clicked with me yet.

Ive started playing drums on hard, I havent failed a song yet and Im on the 25th song but I was knackered after doing 20 in a row.
Im doing ok, except for the fucking off beat drum pedal stuff thats the only thing thats holding me back, also quick double pedal beats are very iffy, paranoid nearly killed me.
Seems like quite a difficulty leap though since I 5 starred the last 5 songs on medium yet I was struggling with in bloom straight away on hard.

Interesting -- I'm really struggling now on the last tier on Medium (Davydd was right about the Rush song in 7/4, argh), even when I clear the song it is really scrappy and horrible. But I've done a couple of the early ones on Hard without too much trouble.

Anyone else got anything they'd really like to see on this? Me, I'd like some Jeff Buckley, Arcade Fire, more Nirvana and some really ludicrous metul like Kataklysm, or something off 'Satanica' by Behemoth.

And some GridLink.

And a button on the drumkit that combats insomnia.

The problem with Jeff Buckley is noone would be able to sing it :p

Wouldnt be suprised if there was more nirvana at some point, but Arcade Fire? dont think that will happen. Could use more metal though, definitely.

Id like to see some more of "todays" bands on there, too.
Im suprised people arent seeing the ponential marketing ploy here, or maybe they are but there is record label BS to battle with.

Bloody hell, if that happened I'd buy it tomorrow. Did you see his recent tour? Still amazing live even though he's about 900 years old. New album's not bad either.

Sadly, I didn't see it -- the only venue I could get to, Birmingham, would still have resulted in a 2am hometime the day before I started my new job. So I chickened out. I've not got the new album yet either. I'm so apathetic about new music in general that I don't even get off my lazy arse to buy new albums by artists I care about. I know that's stupid.

I did see him once, Birmingham again I think, on the Last Dog and Pony Show tour. He was very good. I really like his work.

THESE!

Also xinlisupreme, DMX Krew, Damage Digital and Corrupted, for mad Japanese shits and giggles.

Gods, the idea of trying to sing 'Spathic!!!' accurately is making me smile.

It needs some Devin Townsend. Something off Terria. And, I know it could never happen because of the irritating lack of swearing(see Coheed and Cambria), but 'The Man Who Loves To Hurt Himself' by Today Is The Day would probably damage people.

How about 'Come To Daddy'? I'd love to get points for screaming along to that. It'd give me a sense of achievement. Ooo, and some My Dying Bride.

And Portishead.

And 'The Widow' by Mars Volta.

I only listen to acoustic country music or drone doom at the moment, not much chance of any of that appearing for it... I can save my £160!

@RichardGaywood: 5 CUS points for liking Sugar and surprising me with that fact.

So, has anyone bought any of the albums yet, like Doolittle or whatever? Are they similarly 'good' and well done and stuff?

from an IGN interview:

IGN: Here are ten bands I want to see in RB2:
Agent Orange
The Beatles
Built to Spill
The Buzzcocks
Journey
Led Zeppelin
Modest Mouse
Pavement
The Replacements
Tool

Based on this list. How do you think I would rate RB2 on a scale of 0-10 (ten making me a happy reviewer and zero making suicidal).

Teasdale: Not only have you named some of my favorite bands, but you've also named some of the bands that are on the Rock Band 2 disc.

come on beatles, led zep, modest mouse and pavement.

Oh I saw this the other day and I cant believe I forgot to post it on the forum, but surely the best news of E3 by a mile.

'At last night's Activision non-E3 press conference, it was quickly mentioned that Guitar Hero: World Tour being compatible with non-Guitar Hero instruments. Meaning? The Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero: World Tour are compatible with instruments from the first Rock Band.'

Just in time for this announcement then:

http://kotaku.com/5026533/jimi-hendrix- ... uitar-hero

Quote:
It's been confirmed by Jimi Hendrix's estate that several of his tracks will be appearing in the upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour. Janie Hendrix - who oversees the late guitar god's estate - says that after originally being unable to locate a ton of master tracks (indicating, perhaps, this deal's been in the works for quite some time?), they've now been found, and promptly made available to Neversoft. Three of the songs mentioned are Purple Haze, Foxy Lady & Little Wing. Janie says of the deal "Guitar Hero really was on the ball and and they were biting at the bit to get this out this year, so, we just accommodated them...Jimi was a kid at heart — he definitely would have played these games". Whether that's true or not is besides the point. Purple Haze, people. Purple. Haze.

Is anyone else a bit underwhelmed by the track list for Rock Band 2? Personally, one of the biggest draws of the first game was the amazingly high hit-to-miss ratio of its songs, but that seems to have dropped dramatically for the sequel.

The main problem is the vocals - you just can't sing a song you don't know, and it's not really a lot of fun to try.

Blimey, I think the track list to the second one looks really good. Particularly when you carry over most of the RB1 tracks and all the DLC on top. And then have a song list that can be navigated more quickly than just "up" and "down".

I'm not saying there's not some brilliant stuff in there - I'm far more excited than I ought to be to get a crack at Aqualung, f'rinstance - just that the wheat-to-chaff ratio is less favourable than it was.
