I don't like ham or cold bacon, so that's no good for me.

Individually, I don't either, but once it's wacked in a microwave for 90 seconds, in combination with everything else, it's just flippin' tasty.

Between there and Happy Days pizza I rarely made food myself (and will probably die early).

I went through a derranged, terribly stage in my first year of uni where I basically drank lemonade and ate packs of sainsburys 5 cookies. I also bought horrible, cheapass burgers, value buns, and cheese. In retrospect, it was all fucking vile yet somehow I lost a stone during the first 4 months. Must have been the high nutritional value of my food.

I bought the last ever Sayers sausage rolls I will buy for some time.

I also bought 25 cm of white velcro, and a large amount of thick white cotton.

There was no Sainsbury there in my day, so I was forced into the junk food culture. That, and a massive pizza cost 2 quid.

Can you please phone your wife to tell her I've bought an Elite? I'm fucked if I'm going to tell mine.

Also: Before sainsburys that area was a trainstation, was it not?

If you were ever a student in Manchester it would be damn weird if you didn't live in fallowfield at one time or another. I spent my first year in Oak House, and the local was the squirrels bar and queen of hearts, or fucking 'Scream' or whatever that branded yellow shit is now.

I used to call it Shitworth park, for reasons that are self-explanatory. Aren't the toilets in there reminiscent of a dodgy jail showerblock? Ugh.

No longer! (not really). It has improved vastly. Oak House is now the joke of the accomidation! Half of it doesn't even have the internet! haha (this might have been fixed in the last two years; who cares? It's rubbish! Thought I imagine if you cut it in half it would equal 0.999...)

Granted, there were a couple of blocks of Oak house that were a load of arse, and indeed did not have internet even in my day. Cheerfully I was in the decent bit, that had internet, and a decent room, with a decent bathroom and kitchen. Given that it cost £1800 to live there for the 9 months and somewhere more posh like Richmond park was £2600 that same year, I think I struck it lucky.

Random fun fact: I worked very temporarily in the oak house admin office for two or three weeks, where my job basically consisted of sticking 'NOT KNOWN AT THIS ADDRESS' labels to the billions of letters addressed to students that no longer lived there.

ps: Shocking fact. It was £55 a week at Oak house in my first year and £57 for Whtity P. Horrendus. I believe it's even higher now and all the houses in fallowfield have shot up in price as well, even they're all bollocks. I think it's stupid. Thankfully for my £62 here in Whitington I have the biggest room I've ever seen in my life (I've always had a room which is only slightly bigger than a single bed -- my Whitty P room was massive by comparison). I can fit about 4 drum kits in here. Thankfully I only have 1 and the rest of the floor space is just clothes and bills and things. Who needs a cupboard when I've got billions of square meters!

I can't imagine what rents is like in shittily expensive places like London :(

WHAT???

Oak House was ALWAYS the worst student accommodation in the world. It had rooms about the size of a double bed with a single bed in it consistig of a wooden bed frame, a plank of wood on the bottom and a mattress about the thickness of a Pringle! And in the warmer months it was infested with flying ants! I have never, EVER lives anywhere even a hundredth as bad as that place.

Though my friends running Squirrels made it survivable, as we just spent our time there.

For random information, second year was spent near The Drop Inn, and the other two in Rusholme.

Ah, the memories... including drinking too much in Robinski's (the Scream pub... formerly known as Robinski's Wallet... an American theme pub), and strangely enough my sister went to Uni after me and ended up working in Robinski's around the time you'd have been there.

Oddness.

There were different blocks, to be sure. A mate of mine lived on the opposite side and his place was pretty hellish, skanky in comparison. My flat however was perfectly nice. Sure, it was a single bed, wardrobe, desk and no room other than to navigate between the three, but that was enough for me and none of the furnishings were old or crap. Bargain, really.

The Richard Park rooms weren't that much bigger. The kitchens were a pretty similar size, and with the exception that most of them are en-suite, they're so not worth the £800 more every other chump paid.

Does Sofa bar still exist?

No idea... it was The Shed back in my day though (for a year or so).

We were Broke House, they were Rich Man's Park.

Ahhhhh.

Remember that this was 1997 when I lived there. We didn't have the internet. We didn't even have a phone line. We had four flats of 8 people sharing one payphone. No joke.

Doesn't sound like it changed much dude. Internet was put into roughly half of the hall, and they must have renovated a little bit at the same time which explains why my bit wasn't quite as shite. While there was a phone, it was a million quid to use so nobody every did. The payphones were still there though, one to each block. Quality effort in completely hijacking this thread, btw :)

I almost bought a Toyota Celica today. This one.

But I couldn't, because the battery was dead so I couldn't start it and have a test drive.

Let me turn that sad face into a smile!

Drive your own Totota Celica right here:

I've decided that if the guy will hold the car for me until Wednesday, when I'm next in Wrexham, and can get the battery sorted so I can have a crack at it and test drive it, he's pretty much got a guaranteed sale. Depending on how competitive his finance package is.

Although I might try and knock him down to just under £4,990 or something.

When I test drove my car the battery was flat. But the garage had a magic zapper that made the car start with no hassle. Like a jump start but with just a magic box.

I'm sure it's more complicated than that, but it started it fine. They replaced the whole battery when I decided I wanted the car.

So, er, hoorah!

Because it's 177 miles away from the Celica? :P

Not to mention that it's 17 years old, is a 3.0 V6 so will drink petrol like my Dad drinks Banks's bitter, and is almost certainly far too costly for a young whippersnapper such as myself to insure.

:P

I've booked to go and see it again tomorrow anyway.

Yesterday I bought a complete new outfit for Lisa as she has no smart post pregnancy clothes. Today I bought tickets to go swimming (but it was cold, so I didn't stay in the pool too long), then spent £70 in Tesco and £20 on fuel. Go me.

I must ressurect this thread to tell you that today, in addition to breakfast, I have eaten the following:

Footlong subway melt (herbs and cheese). Was good.
Refreshers bar. Sugary.
Star bar. Amazing.

Then on the way home I bought:

Bigmac, Large fries, banana milkshake, apple pie.

I am now tucking into a magnum. Ever have days when you're just HUNGRY? I don't feel full yet.

About that little run you're doing in a few days...

Are you going to post a picture?

Today I bought 3 t-shirts, a pair of tracky bums and some socks (for Darryl). Some tights, PJs, a dressing gown and shoes (for Chloe). A KFC bucket thingy, for me Darryl and Lisa.

Exciting spending today chaps.
