The Channel 4 Advert for Kubrick season is fucking hyper-genius.

The thing I find hardest to swallow is the number of people seen on "set". Kubrick was allowed a lot of his idiosyncracies in no small part because he ran a very tight ship by most crew standards - he generally had far far fewer people on set than most films do and hence he didn't spend a small fortune every time he decided to reshoot a scene for the bazillionth time, as was his wont.

Yeah. I remember reading about Dave Prowse asking him to try and get the scene in Clockwork Orange where he carries that bloke in the wheelchair down the stairs in as little takes as possible, as it was a really hard thing for Dave to do. Everybody expected Kubrick to blow his stack at him, but he said he'd try his best. I think he only had to do it 5 or 6 times.

I remember in an interview with David Prowse that the other actors were amazed that Kubrick treated him completely differently than he would them, and treat him far more friendly. The two of them would talk about football between scenes. Prowse asked him why he didn't snap at him like he did at the others, and Kubrick replied, "because I respect you, David. You're not an actor."

:)

(Paraphrased, btw.)

Excellent anecdote that. Most actors are asshats - it's not like it's fucking rocket science pretending to be someone else, but you'd think they were synthesising proteins while commando crawling over broken glass with SAS snipers trying to shoot them in the ass the way they go on about it. Well, some of them :D

Are there people saying that Charlotte Church can't actually sing?
You what? Of all the pop 'singers' around today, she is pretty much the only one that absolutely, definitely can.

In fairness I think the suggestion is that her voice is somewhat more suited to the classical stuff than to "pop".

When I got roped into doing some acting for a college project, I did develop a begrudging respect for actor types, as I found it to be actually more difficult than I thought it would be. Turns out, I'm a fucking shit actor.

That said, a lot of the drama students we used to get in to act in stuff for us were proper twunts.

Yes, of course that's precisely what I said. Her voice is too clean and trained for pop music - she cannot relax her voice enough to sound totally at ease singing a throwaway pop song, it sounds forced. I think I quite clearly said that she could definitely sing.

Er, yes, GazChap must! Share your tips and tricks with us. Me, I like to put the conditioner in and then give me nuts a thorough scrubbing with a hand towel whilst waiting for my hair to 'do'. Although wringing out the hand towel after e.g. a weekend hiking can be a bit unpleasant. My tip: don't use a white one, you'll never get it properly clean again.

Good idea ComicalGnomes.

Rainbow Six Vegas is a lot less Rainbow Six-y than I thought it would be. It's not quite the realism fest the previous games were, and I'm a little disappointed. It's more like a slightly realistic CoD 4 or something.

I certainly blame Dan Brown for it being made.

And now it has a burning cross in it! This, is stunning.

Edit: 12 burning crosses.

Edit 2: Wow, I have seen some unadulterated pap in my time, but that was genuinely the worst, I would have been better watching Big Brother. The BBC should be embarrassed, for shame BBC, for shame.

Notatall! I was just expecting that rather than another continuous, level-after-level, first person shooter.

Also, Just Cause is a bit shit, too. It could've been good, but I found it to be very, very samey after just 30 minutes. I don't think any of my 4 for £20 purchases could be considered awesome. Although, Lost Planet and Vegas are pretty decent, but they were in the 2 for £20 one.

yeah just cause was quite a waste, although for a sand box game its quite short at only 5 to 10 hours long, decent finale.
the lost planet demo I found incredibly boring though. why have gamestation took there pre-owned deals off their site?

Not sure, but I recommend Lost Planet, especially if you like Dead Rising. It's a typical Capcom game. They get everything right underneath and come up with a load of good ideas, but then they piss over it all with a dodgy control system or a slightly nonsensical plot. I find you have to persevere with their games, then you get the tasty treat in the middle. Or something.

I just saw Black Watch at the Barbican (er, sorry - sold out in this run - queue for returns was 30 people long) and it was *incredible*. Gripping, moving, not overtly political, something for everyone. It seems to be having a break then heading for New York but if it comes anywhere near you, grab a ticket if you can. I've seen some theatre in my time, but that was right up there with the very best.

To coin a phrase I think no one has ever used - I laughed and cried. There, lovely.

Car was nice. Date was nice. Judging by her Facebook status we'll be seeing each other again. Top night all round, really! :P

I just went to see Hancock. Thought it was good. An enjoyable laugh-out-loud funny film. Charlize Theron was particularly edible-looking in it, too.

Also Batman trailer and Bond trailer. Squeeee!
