Excellent, the thread is working again.

I ended up making a cutesy one and decided to call it Mimi.

Heh, yeah, he does. The way his fins animate is very broken.

The octopus's broken animation makes his head squelch though, and actually works that way.

That one is particularly wonderful.

Does anyone know if the full-featured creature creator is available to buy for Mac?

I will get this, I will get this next week and put it ONLY on my big computer, not my laptop, that way it will not eat entire weeks.

Aw! Mimi!

One of us! One of us! One of us! (etc.)

By the way, anyone spot the easter egg you get when you spin the galaxy backdrop to the menu really fast? It made me laugh.

Some excellent stuff there, Rev Owen. I especially like Warthog Madonna. Many more strange beasties and we'll get David Bowie turning up in tights and big-crotch trying to lead them in a Magic Dance chorus.

I was very god. I have done as the Rev and ordered the disc version from Game, so as to make sure that I work over the weekend. Also, I like discs.

Definitely the older ones. Those ones are ugly. I apologise if you have one, they are just not to my liking. They look like they have a broken nose.

God no, I don't have one. I haven't passed my car test yet. I should probably start my lessons again.

Those old ones are much better. Why people buy the news ones I'll never know.

I found this out, last night, at about 3am. I pissed myself laughing for a good 5 minutes. (3am, remember?) I was amazed that you could spin it. Then Petey's face popped up!

Also, Mimi: If you're buying it, get it from the shops. I don't know about the mac, but there's a word of trouble and silly licences involved if you download it from EA. I got mine from direct2drive.co.uk, which is an ace place to buy games (they're basically the CD zipped up but without the secureRom stuff! hurrah), but I'm not sure if they do Mac. Just go to the shop. There's one CD and it had both the PC and Mac versions on the disc.

edit: I see you have already ordered it from game! My comment is a bit redunda[e?]nt then. Still, good choice!

Tsk. Words from Eurogamer:

Quote:
It's only been out for a day but 250,000 beasties have already been birthed using the Spore Creature Creator, with community site sharing taking place at a rate of two creatures every second.

But some monsters have been banned because they are rude, and apparently violate the inappropriate content section in the Terms of Service.

Those making walking willies or booby beasts have reported emails from EA warning that accounts are being flagged and may be axed if it continues, according to GamesRadar.

All of which has probably given you ideas.

"The response to the Spore Creature Creator has been overwhelming," said Lucy Bradshaw, executive producer at Maxis.

"The creativity and passion that the community is putting into their creatures is spectacular. The development team has spent the last 24 hours checking out the amazing creations racing in from all corners of the globe - with peak volume hitting more than 1000 creatures being shared a minute."

The Spore Creature Creator was released on Tuesday and lets you get to grips with perhaps the most important part of the evolution-based game ahead of its 5th September release.

You can download a cut-down version for free, or the entire thing for GBP 5.

Look out for our in-depth look at the Creature Creator soon, as well as what Spore's Lucy Bradshaw had to say when we had a chat with her recently.

As for the EA stupido thing, if I knew then that I could get the full thing from other places, I would have. I'm really not impressed with their service and I think I'll just write off the £5 and buy it in the shops. It won't automatically put in an order if I've spent £5 on the Creature Creator Preorder, will it? Do I have to do anything?

Hehe, yeah, I went for the disc, just because, basically, it's the sme price, even with delivery, and good to have a hard copy of things if they are no more expensive.

I have also orderd the full game on disk. I am waiting by my front door now, just undr the letter box. Until September 5th. I'll just wait here...

They should have released the creature creator for DS as a downloadable demo on the Nintendo channel on Wii. Not a Nintendo game though, I guess, so no chance, but still - would have been fun for a play.

EA Downloader is one of the worst services I've ever, ever used. It took me ages to work out how to download the game I got, then it took me ages to work out how to get it to get the patches (why not just do it like Steam?!)...a complete and utter spaghetti mess of crap.

Steam is the only downloadable service I've had a good experiance with. I've not heard great things about D2D, mainly stuff about it not being compatible with retail patches but they always patch late - and in a game based on connectivity it doesn't sound like fun.

If I get it...which I probably will, mess around a bit then put in back on the shelf...I'll probably get a boxed copy.

If you pre order the full Spore (as in, the FULL thing, inc creature creator) from direct2drive.co.uk, then you get the CC for free. So you might as well do that if you plan on getting spore anyway.

Sheepeh - You're right. D2D have to "refit" the official patches then release them. HOWEVER, this hasn't bitten me, because the only other game I've bought from them is World in Conflict. I've patched that a number of times using the official patches (though the ingame patcher tends to fail - btu it seems to do that with disc copies anyway, by looking at the forums) and I just download a zip from the site.

Personally, I prefer box copies. But it was £5 so I thought "sod it" and downloaded it from D2D.

Also, apparently with the EADM thing you have to pay extra to be able to download your game again the future? How ludicrous. I've also read some people saying their Spore CC doesn't work unless they uninstall the EADM or go around deleting a couple of files it uses. Basically: AVOID.

Peskily, I ordered the creature creator late yesterday, so that I didn't have it to play about with over teh weekend as I MUST MUST MUST get my website finished. However, somehow it turned up in the post first thing this morning. When you want things to arrive straight away and in record time they never do...

I haven't tried it yet (and I will not until I have got my work done) but I couldn't help have a look through the manual.

Oh, squeely squeeeeee. *faints*

I cannot believe how long I have waited for this game to come out. And it is, it really is...

Just read this in the manual

Quote:
CREATE BABIES

Click the Babies icon, and then click each egg icon once to add one, two or three babies [...] Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. As in real life a baby will mimic what it's parent does. remember, they are just learning so don't be surprised if they mess up from time to time.

Oh gosh, it sounds so great :)

It's okay Mr Dave, from the Creature Creator what it means in practice is that they just try and copy your dance moves with the odd comedy fumble. It's not remotely like Black & White's "Just eat the pissing wheat, will ya?" annoyances.
