It's trackback spam. Not really aimed at clickthroughs, but at building pagerank for your site by making lots of sites link back to you. There's an argument that trackbacks should be disabled because of that, although it's fairly rare, I think.

And it works both ways, of course.

Just a minor thing I noticed but in Bluce_Ree's champ manager review shouldn't it be "overstated" rather than "understated"?

It's a very hard book to find IIRC, nobody would believe we had read it.
