"Committee on the Safety of Devices". I mean, isn't that one of the main things that we have a government for, making sure stuff is safe, and shit?

That one struck me as splendidly vague. Like "Advisory Board on the Advisability of Activities"

Nuclear Decommissioning Authority? They're responsible for pretty much everything now.

The Guardian revealed last year that the arm of the HSE which was carrying out the work – the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII) – had been forced to hire more than a dozen project managers, even though they work for the companies hoping to build the designs under review.

That was it.

Frankly I'm astounded that the valuable work of the Commissioner for the Compact is to be stopped, yet those wasters over at the Plant Varieties and Seeds Tribunal are still in a job. What are the compact going to do now, without their commissioner?

Christ. Apparently the last World of Warcraft expansion, released nearly two years ago, has finally come out in China.

Such is the way, they've been forced to remove all skeletons from the game, and turn all the blood green. In an expansion about the skeletal death lord of the something something, no wonder it's taken so long. Bonkers.

Something I probably haven't mentioned yet is that my girlfriend's ex boyfriend, this being the guy she left for me and who proceeded to stalk her for about a year after, also works at my new employer. He works in Finance though, not IT, so naturally I assumed he'd be in a different part of the building.

Not so! He sits two banks of desks away from me. However, we are both professionals and have said nothing to each other, save for the occasional nod of acknowledgement should our paths cross.

So, the question is, what photo do I put on my desk? One just of the missus, one of the two of us on a date, one of us with my daughter like one big happy family (he needn't know my daughter isn't hers) or all of the above?

I've been in a fucking hellish mood since last Saturday. It finally started clearing last night, only for my ex to start hassling me (via text) about last year's MOT on the car I sold her at 10pm, ending just as the new MissN got in and aggravated my mood even further.

You'd think being in an awesome new relationship would mean my neuroses GIVE IT A FUCKING REST, but noooo, this has been the worst week in years.

I really think it is just the time of year. I've been feeling down anyway this week and the missus has been having some pretty shitty mood swings (she's weaning off of anti-depressants, very hard to do) and this resulted in general shittiness on Tuesday night and a full-blown bust-up on Wednesday. Things seem okay now, though I'm very much looking forward to the weekend so we can spend some time being nice to each other and getting things back on the right track.

I've taken the rest of it to the Hang Ups thread, but
Mr Kissyfur wrote:

It seems that it might not have one. It was still my car, and we were (probably) technically (though not in my head) still together, when it expired last November. When I bought the BMW, she took over driving the Skoda and notionally all running issues - paperwork, getting it serviced, and so on.

Except she never did*, despite her shifts and my working 30 miles from home making it a massive pain in the arse for me to deal with. Now it needs tax, but the website says the car's not got an MOT so won't allow it, and she couldn't find the certificate, so she wanted to know if I had it and where it was done, etc, etc.

And I'm too nice to have just said "Look, it's a year ago, I was trying to break up with you, that was your job, it's after 10pm on a worknight, my new girlfriend is due home any minute now and I'm in a shitty enough mood anyway without you lumping this on me."

* And apparently never has, having gone at least 1k past the service indicator, left the tax late, not had other bits we already knew about looked at, so on and so forth, since buying it off me when we split up. She's lucky to have got away with it, especially being a copper (TEH IRONS).

If the website says it hasn't got one, then it really hasn't got one. And she should have got one then, and should really get one now.

For next time.

Apparently they can't tell. The doctor said she could have had it 20 years (which inevitably reminded me of the end of that Mo Mowlam play). It seems the only treatment available won't stop or slow down its progress but will help her cope, so better than nowt.

I didn't want to say anything initially as I know how bleak the outlook is with Alzheimer's having researched it some months back as HC's mother is showing clear signs of dementia.

Basically it's something they know little about other than being able to diagnose it. There are no known yardsticks with it's rate of development from what I could find out, so your mum could be fine for years to come and gradually progress to "alpha" stage much later in her life. I sincerely hope this is how it plays out for her and your family. It's also difficult to get help, but at least with her being diagnosed you can lean on social services if and when you need them.

Anyway, as I said, my thoughts are with you and your mum.
