Yeah, they made a good 'un there. My only real gripe was that they made the game stunning looking, but the gameplay rather requires you to spend 90% of the time in overlay-o-vision, so you don't see any of it.

It might be a good idea. It won't take long on such a small (by 2010 standards) HDD.

Has anyone here played the 3D version of it? I can't imagine it being an overly-convincing 3D effect with the game being pretty dark, but I'm happy to be proved wrong as I wouldn't mind playing through it again.

I'm being made redundant at the end of the month and going on gardening leave from Friday.

I have an interview tomorrow for another role in this organisation, one which.. If I'm quite honest.. I don't want.

It's only a secondment till March though but it does mean that if I get it, I won't get my redundancy money. If I do get it though.. it means I still have a job which I suppose in the long run, will be better for me.

The role is completely different to what I do now and kind of takes a sidetrack to my career... It also means that I won't be able to look for a job till March to secure the redundancy money... so... what should I do?!?

It's a tough one.

I guess it depends on how easily you think you'll find something else that you do want to do? If the next couple of weeks and the redundancy money would give you enough time and money to find a job you do want then I'd take that option.

Heh - true. As soon as baddies started having a chance of being armed, I had to have the Bat-scope switched on permanently.

Still, it's pretty, and the character modelling and voice acting is quite good. Not sure about the giant mutants, though.

The Vision - sorry to hear that, chap. Would the secondment be significantly longer than the period for which you'd be on gardening leave and the equivalent time for the redundancy payoff? I'm sure you don't want/need advice on this, but I guess if it were me I'd be going for the option with the maxium amount of time with money during which I can find another job.

Working for the 6 months in the secondment role will give me double what I would have had with the redundancy payout... and it's a steady income.

I guess it's a no brainer really. I should go for it, do my best and hope that I get it.

I was really looking forward to the gardening leave though! :droool:

Are you still using it while it runs? When I defrag a drive, I disable any network connections and then shut down every process I can before starting it off. Not sure how much time, if any, it saves as I normally go off and do something else instead.

It's a great game that suffers slightly from repetitive boss battle syndrome toward the end. I strongly recommend spending an hour or two doing the challenge rooms to give your combat skills a boost. It will make the game far more pleasurable.

Regarding my redundancy... If I do get this secondment role, it will take my service with the company over 4 years so I'll hopefully get more in the way of a redundancy payment.

That softens the blow a bit.

Sorry to hear about this V. How flakey is the company in general? From my experience if a company is on the slippery slope the first to leave usually get the best payouts. Just something to think about if the company does look like it's going to go tits up in a year or so.

Obviously, it's best to be employed but it's worth exploring the option of looking for another job while you're deciding if you want to take the secondment or not.

I used to pretty much use Amazon for buying stuff for other people (either as gifts or just to help people out when they were afraid to buy stuff online) so my recommendations were way off - it was either Roger Moore films or Cliff Richard CDs for several years. Great.

You'll probably get an extra 380 quid - however thats assuming that you still get the option to be made redundant at the end of the period with the secondary role.

Given that I used to do a fair amount of climbing it is odd to think that I'm really quite afraid of heights. Watching that made my palms begin to sweat within seconds and I began to feel a bit queasy. Especially when he takes both hands off to put the safety line on.

I was fine with heights for most of my life. Then, when halfway across a treetop rope bridge 150' above the jungle floor in Borneo, I had a sudden realisation that I was in fact utterly terrified of heights. That was an interesting few minutes.

I suffer from vertigo, which is a fucker, but it's not being afraid of heights, of course.

Worst moment ever was on the Army officer selection thingy, about 3 or 4 stories height above the ground on some parallel bars, in the rain, doing "head shoulders knees and toes".

Well, that was about it, really. Had to walk across maybe 10 metres of it, doing the head shoulders knees and toes thing every second step. I made it across, but was fucking terrified. Not least because I was wearing an old pair of boots with very, very worn treads. Basically I was wearing slicks, in the rain. My friction coefficient was pretty low.

At one point the lieutenant supervising, who was stood at the other end of the bars, was jumping up and down, the bastard.

No, no harness. If I'd fallen, I'd have died. I'm fairly sure you can't sue the Army for shit, either.

I'd like to think my ninja-like reflexes would have meant I'd have caught hold of the bars on the way down, but somehow I suspect not.
