Post subject:  Song Wars Rules

Song wars will consist of 8 weekly rounds running Wednesday to Tuesday, players will be split into groups and will score points within those groups according to how well their songs do in the week's voting. At the end of the eight weeks, the top two players from each group will go into a series of knockout rounds to determine an eventual winner

Weeks 1 and 2 will have no theme
Week 3 will have a theme chosen by me
Following that, the themes will be chosen for each group by the person in that group who chose the lowest scoring song in the earlier rounds (lowest scorer in round 1 chooses week 4's theme, etc).
Submissions must be made by PM to me by 2PM on the Tuesday preceding the start of each round. Either send me a link to a Youtube video or use Grim...'s MP3 Uploader and send me the link. Anyone who doesn't nominate a song by the deadline will get one chosen by me.

Week one will start Wednesday 10th August

Voting will be a simple poll for each group, and the songs will be anonymised so you don't know who you're voting for. You can vote for your own song if you wish.

Big thanks to MarkX for the fact that I've lifted these rules virtually wholesale from the original Song Wars.

I trust you'll be adding the rule that as I'm playing, I have to win?

Only if we're voting for the worst songs.

No, it doesn't matter this time what you vote for. I automatically win.

This thread didn't exist when the signup thread was posted.

I'm trying to decide if I can work in another one somewhere.

If we have 6 groups, then should we have the two 'best runners up' go into the knock-out stages, so we have 8 quarter finalists, or do you have some other marvellous scheme in the works?

Also, I have been wrestling with my consicence about how to play this. Go for the win by picking well-known, popular songs, or playing in the spirit of the thing and just picking lesser known songs I like.

I'm gonna go with the spirit.

Huzzah!

I'm going to do top two from all groups - because otherwise it's unfair on the larger groups because there would be likely to be more sharing out of points.

So we'll have 12 through to the knockout. We'll do 6 2-man quarters, 3 2-man semis, then a 3-man grand finale.

And he forgot the original rule that for the first knockout round onwards, all players have to post a YouTube video of them dancing to the song they chose. Though I did just make that up.

Yeah, I thought we had Eurovision style voting.

Also, are we playing via an honour system not to vote for our own songs, or is that encouraged?

Just to let you know, I can't listen to the sings uploaded to the MP3'er and can't view/see the polls, so I can't actually vote.

I'll watch as many of the YouTube videos as I can, but if I don't get so 'engaged' in the sing discussion, that is why - not because I'm being a spoilsport, etc :P

What? Shush now...

The MP3 player still wouldn't work, anywAy, so I'd be making an uninformed unfair vote.

Quite surprised that Dirge is doing fairly well. I'd have thought a fairly miserable sounding monotonous churning track could be that popular.

However Hocus Pocus being the group leader baffles me even more. I'd rather listen to a mashup of the worzels, jedward and rebecca black. It truly sounds like one of the worst things ever to my ears. But still, that's just subjective taste I guess.

I just can't help being utterly perplexed by it, what am I missing?
