Nearing the final, here's the first of the semi-finals. If anyone's wondering where the other semi-final thread is, Sheepeh is away for the moment, but has reported in to say he'll be submitting a track when he returns on Monday or Tuesday. So: look out for that. In the meantime:
Orange Juice - Rip It Up
""I hope to God you're not as dumb as you make out/ I hope to God/ I hope to God." Released in 1983, it was a top ten single for the Edwin Collins-fronted band. Brilliantly subvertive in every way (the popping noises in the background! The deep vocal by Edwin! The sparse guitar!) it pushes the envelope of what pop music can sound like and yet at the same time sounds perfectly normal, and that... that is the genius of this song. "
VERSUS
Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence
VOTING ENDS: JAN 6th 2009
"Awesome song that reminds me of many good times (and some bad). Great tune, great lyrics. Perfect electro pop."
Only one person will survive the vote! Make your choice now! Or soon.

I'll listen to the Orange Juice track when I get home and before I vote, but 'Enjoy the Silence' is a personal favourite, so it will have to be good...

It seems all versions of the Orange Juice video on YouTube have embedding disabled, thanks to the gloved corporate fist of Universal. Anyone wishing to hear the song from within the confines of the forum may like to look just below these words, where there's a performance of the same song from a TV show:
(I would replace the version 'up there' with this, but Mystery Uploader intended on using the proper video, which as Mr N. Bells correctly posits, can be viewed by clicking through to it.)
