The Roy Orbison song deserves some credit for an amazingly literal interpretation of the theme. :D

Well it's not "I drove for part of the night, arriving just after 1am".

see im a bit dubious of the lyrics, when does he stop driving to make love to you, or is he driving all night for an early morning fumble or is he driving until he finds a lady of the night he quite fancies. When do they clock off anyway I'd have thought 3am would kind of be like last orders.

The Yo La Tengo track is perfect for the theme I think.

I knew Venus in Furs would make it - couldn't remember which track it was on the Volvo ad.

The Chris Rea, Yo La Tengo and Nightmares on Wax tracks have the sort of melancholy, chilled out vibe I was imagining. I thought if Rea was to pop up, it would be "Road To Hell", and I was ready to knock votes off it was Part 2, because Part 1 is much better.

As much as I like "I Drove All Night" (semi-nekkid Jennifer Connolly for the win!), it is a bit loud and brassy for 3am in the city. Same with Venus in Furs, though again that could be 3am on a Saturday night.

The Cake song is incredibly reminiscent of Beck circa Odelay. In a really good way. It totally fits.

Surprised no-one picked Iggy Pop "Passenger".

I considered Siouxsie's version of The Passenger but thought it would make my upload too obvious. The video of the Chris Rea thing makes it seem more like driving in the Desert at 3pm than 3am.. still the intro fits fairly well. It's not so good when the drums kick in.

I agree about Roy Orbison though it is quite literal depiction of the subject, at least video wise.

I think maybe another Chris might have been appropriate as well..

I was imagining in my head something like a mix between Blue Hotel and the Yo La Tengo track.

I was going to mention that Chris Rea is the second most embarassing Chris in my CD collection, but Nirejhenge's beat me to the punch a bit.

My favourite night-driving song in the world ever:

I nearly posted Shadowplay but that's more city driving than desert. It was a pretty close call though.

It's meant to be the city, isn't it? Where's the desert come from? Other than Chris Rea's impression of Ry Cooder, obv.

Ohhh! I didn't read the original theme post properly. Driving in deserted city at 3am. Not driving in a desert at 3am. Damn. Can I enter Shadowplay now please?

If I had read the theme properly I'd have probably gone for Shadowplay but maybe this:
