Apols for the delay, but here's the scoreboard for week three:

Image

("Gasp! No-one had picked Aqua after all!" - Everyone.)

And Song Wars rule XVII(a) dictates, people who didn't actually pick their songs don't win points when the tracks I've lightheartedly attributed to them prove to be inexplicably popular.Bad news for Mr Russ. Good news for common sense. With that in mind, here are the current league standings:

Image

Ooh, pretty. Craig and Mimi have already opened up huge leads at the top of their tables, but there's a real battle going on for second spot in their groups.

Have we got time for a graph? Oh hells, yeah.

Image

Craig streaking ahead in the race for "early unofficial Song Wars king/queen", with second-placed Mimi some 28 votes behind.

Excellent.

None too surprised with my lack of votes this time around, and I think week four will be similar....

Oh yeah, next week's things.

The WEEK FIVE themes are as follows, so if you haven't already, get them songs in before the obvious and best choices are taken. Choices in by 23:59, 28th Oct 2008:

GROUP A: "Songs with numbers in the title" (chosen by Mark X)

GROUP B: "Songs that are appropriate for our economy taking a nose dive" (Mr Chris)

GROUP C: "songs with place names in the title" (The Rev Owen)

GROUP D: "Epic songs (anyone choosing that Faith No More song will be frowned upon for not being very funny)" (Myoptika)

As for the WEEK SIX themes (voting to start next Wednesday), can the following pupils report to my study with their choice of theme: Plissken (A), NervousPete (B), Grim... (C) and Bluecup (D).

Count yourself lucky - my track got beaten by two Mark X comedy tracks. Two!

I'd just like to say that my choice (HardDrive) is a band where the lead singer used to be the cleaner where I work (she left to try and take them further).

Nice that she's able to compete with more mainstream acts (even if she only finished 4th)

How do you think I feel? One of the comedy songs I thought everyone would hate received exactly as many votes at the song I have sitting right at the top of my last.fm all-time top songs ever chart. One of my favourite songs of all time is worth as much in a popular vote as one of Aqua's less well-remembered singles.

Trainspotters Award Alert: can you spot all of this week's Songs I'm Expecting Everyone To Hate? I won't rest until one of them gets precisely zero votes, y'know.

But look at how bad I'm doing even though I've properly picked a song every week!

Absolute fecking genius track, that. Good find, Nirej - every time I'd try to find some of their stuff on YouTube I could only ever find the (excellent) live performance on Adam & Joe Go Tokyo. Those three minutes are easily the best thing BBC Three has ever transmitted.

I'm definitely inclined to agree. Plus-Tech Squeezebox and The Grindermen made a fabulous combination. I have their first album around here somewhere. It's not bad but not brilliant. Nothing to compare with Early Riser.

I've got Fake Vox and Cartoom, but didn't know there was a previous PTSB album. You suggesting there's an album preceding the one with Early Riser on it (which would be Fake Vox) suggests that there is. This is an interesting development.

Semirelatedly, I've just done an iTunes Store search for PTSB albums, and they haven't got any. BUT! There's now an iTunes+ offering of the magnificently-titled Naivepop Or Petitfool album "1 ,2, 3, Darts!", which I've been after for ages (and so have just bought). AND! It strongly suggests that the rest of the abcdefg*records roster is likely to be there too. There's another kick to my disposable income, right there.

I just mean that nothing on Fakevox compares with Early Riser. It's good but not THAT good.

I love that Scooter track simply because, at uni they were dumb enough to tell us when the fire drill was going to be, namely 10am Saturday. This is the sequence of events with which I may have had something to do. with.

9:45am Entire bottom hall of 4 floor hall of residence opens windows.
9:50am Entire bottom hall of 4 floor hall of residence is to be found outside, at the registration point, holding coffee and pot noodle and wearing coats because this is welsh winter.
9:55am 22 student grade stereo systems simultaneously start playing Scooter - Fire at full volume.
10 am Fire alarm goes off, no-one notices, least of which the 100 people outside, 80 of which seem to be still in pyjamas and looking quite cross.
10:05 I finish my pot noodle as the hall fire warden yells at us.

A good reason to like the song! But you should also like Scooter as they are fucking A!
