(for those not aware the top ten list is here : http://uptojump.co.uk/?p=1127 )

Resi 4 is to be re-re-re-released on the Xbox and PS3

http://exophase.com/22176/remastered-hd ... g-ps3-360/

Quote:
Remastered ‘HD’ editions of Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica are hitting PS3 and Xbox 360, a source close to Andriasang has revealed. Dubbed the ‘Resident Evil Revival Selection,’ Capcom plans on bundling both in a single offering, though it’s unclear how extensive of a makeover either title is receiving.

With the amount of times RE4 has been given the re-release treatment, let’s hope Capcom has something substantial in the works this time around, especially given its stature among fans.

Further details are expected in an upcoming issue of Famitsu.

Hmm, I've already played this. There's already too many good new games to keep up without having to play through old ones again but with some more pixels.

I never completed Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube.

This could be just what I need!

Yeah, I'm keen to see what extra stuff they'll throw in though.

I had (have) it on the PS2, it really is a tremendous game, full of atmosphere.
Id welcome this as an 800pt download (LOL, keep dreaming)

I did complete it and have little interest in paying full priced game cash monies for it! Yay!

...Unless they throw in some co-op goodness, and more Mercenaries, which they're bound to. Oh god, I'm going to end up buying this aren't I? Gah!

Can I be a lone voice of dissent. I never finished it. Actually, let's be accurate, I tried three or four times and never got more than 3 hours in before switching it off. Why? I don't know for certain, but a lot is to do with how it controls — it feels like it's deliberately ham strung the interaction and responsiveness of the character to make the game, what — harder? More tense? I don't know, but it all felt too contrived and too slavish in being beholden to it's legacy. I hated all the other Resi games I'd played previously. This was an improvement but not much.

I'm really want to see what they do with it - to me its a game that hit just at the right time , much better graphics than before (especially on the Gamecube) , a nice control method , a chaptering and save system that worked , a reasonable story and difficulty gradiant with some epic set pieces (the swarm in the cabin being a standout moment) - and I think the first story based game I finished and hit 'continue' on to go straight back around.

My real worry is about how its aged.

On the plus side of things the remake of Resi 1 on the gamecube was excellent with high res graphics and just those few extra things thrown in that made it a nice addition , and Code Veronica was one of the games I bought with my Dreamcast and really enjoyed - so I'm interested in the annoucement and will almost certainly get this but it probably comes down to the price and what extra they add in.

Never finished Code Veronica myself actually.

The GameCube remakes where great, I agree.

I find all (or most) Capcom games to be like that. They occasionally make one I enjoy (Resi 5), but most seem like they're almost deliberately crippled and buggy with incredibly poor controls. Dead Space et al. have proven you can create a wide variety of tension and difficulty in survival shooters without having to rely on hamfisted mechanics and controls.

Definately one of my favourite set pieces. They're in the house!

One of the things I'm reminded of though is the gore being memorably turned up with the variety of death animations, something that Dead Space was unafraid to ape but Resident Evil 5 strangely shied away from. There's just something about Resi 4 that just doesn't care what the world thinks which I felt was a little lost in 5.

Got it on the Gamecube at release, then got it on the Wii, and got the PC version.

Will be getting this version too.

Resi 4 wasn't that clunky. I liked the feel of the controls as it felt very solid. Instead of the run and gun madness of FPS games, Resi 4 needs you to be rooted if you want to aim your gun. It made shoot outs pretty tense but full of rewarding moments where you shoot a dog's face off or whatever.

I'll definitely be picking this up. I just hope they don't put achievements on the Mercs mode as that was balls hard.

I can't see how that list would have changed much since we last did it, so no. It's a lot of work and the bickering is unbelievable.

Perhaps in a couple of years.

I agree its a lot of work (generally thankless) , however it was a few years ago and there have been a number of people leaving / arriving since.

I think some things will change but as it was 'of all time' a lot will remain the same - I guess the real question is whats the advantage of doing it again ?

And is there a better topic / action for "best game of the last 5 years" or some other random number ?

(*) Reading through a lot of it today and it made me realise I really miss Owen :-(
So if we were doing an update to it i think whats there should stay.

Doing best games is pointless, this place hasn't changed anywhere near that much.

We should do worst games, obv.

Or, my personal favourite, the almostest brilliant games ever. You know a bad game can only be so bad, but a game that is almost wonderful but is ruined and made terrible by stupid, stupid flaws is infinitely worse, and therefore more interesting to talk/read about.

Examples that come to mind: Far Cry 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Abomination.

I like this as a topic :-)

(Dead Rising springs to mind - one of my favourite 360 games but you need to understand and get over its flaws to get there)

Yeah, I was tempted to say Dead Rising as it's borderline. I still think the net result is a uniquely fun game, but it's a close call, and if not for the legion of terrible idiocies it commits, it would be sublime, and I'd have played it more than once this year.

Also adding Stalker to the list. The primary flaw being its total brokennness, obv.

and yet oddly when they 'fixed' those perceived problems, the sequel was an inferior game. Bit odd that.

Far Cry 2 would be good if it wasn't set in 50,000 square kilometers of precisely fuck all. First one (on the PC) was good though.

Amiga. IIRC it came with whatever package we got with the A500+.

Shadow of the Bastcunt 2 was fucking hard too unless you'd had nearly a dozen pints ;)

I'm so tempted to get my Dad to ship me my NES up now, just so I can come round yours and help you beat this level.

I was talking about Resi 4, you plonk. I completed the first level of Bart vs TSM once, I think, on the Amiga.

I got attacked in the first house/cabin, got scared and turned it off.

Played Wind Waker after that.
