Tokyo's 'oldest man' had been dead for 30 years

He was thought to be the oldest man in Tokyo - but when officials went to congratulate Sogen Kato on his 111th birthday, they uncovered mummified skeletal remains lying in his bed.

Mr Kato may have been dead for 30 years according to Japanese authorities.

They grew suspicious when they went to honour Mr Kato at his address in Adachi ward, but his granddaughter told them he "doesn't want to see anybody".

Police are now investigating the family on possible fraud charges.

I have located the source of the hornets that keep flying in the house. Annoyingly they are in next doors roof and they are on holiday for 4 weeks.

Think I'll check with our other neighbour in the morning who has their key. Extermination would be 40 quid, but if I have to pay so be it as I hate the things and the fuckers keep coming in the house.

I have returned from Scotchingland. I waved to our Scotches and North English as I drove past.

We'll wait to see if any letters pop through my letterbox from Dumfries & Galloway or Perthshire constabulary first. That tends to happen when I go to Scotland.

You sure they're not fruit flies? We've got hundreds of them here and they look a lot like hornets.

Yellow and black and an articulated body.

Well a few people I know were fooled.

Ah, that's rather different. There's no trace of yellow or black in your first picture.

Chinny's brought it on himself. If he didn't mention Alan Sugar so often the wasps and hornets would leave him alone.

The picture of the first is a female, with a mutation on the third chromosome. Eyes are wild type, as is the patterning.

Hornets are an order of magnitude larger Han fruit flies.

Flies lay eggs. Adult flies do notchange color, but virgin females are distinguishable from other flies.

is that becauase they are attracted to sweet things, and Alan Sugar's surname is Sugar which is famous for being the same as sugar which is sweet?

What've you got?

I picked some of these up recently. They're for running, but they're another candidate for the JC of trainers for sure.

Right, now you've gone and done it !

You've made a wise choice there. I've worn nothing but Nike for 25 years and nothing but Max and Shox since they were invented.

These are in a suitcase in the loft. They're not new like this anymore, but I have worn them about ten times.

Image

$25 from Marshalls (TJ MAXX affair).

Then these. Note the dust? Goodwood 2009. I've not worn them since.

Image

Literally feel like you are walking on fluffy clouds. $20 at Ross (another TJ MAXX affair).

I have these for around the house and in the garden.

Image

They're basically my slippers.

And then the mother of them all, these.

Image

Again still in mint condition due to what I paid for them. I'm not going to say how much, but I will confess that they costed about the same as my alligator and hide Timberlands - too much.

Oh incase you were wondering why they're mostly hideous ankle boots it's 'cos I have bad feet (lean inward) and arthritic ankles. So without support I can only walk about a half mile before I keel over in agony.

The other day, whilst I was toiling away in the North garden, sweat on my torso reflecting the sunlight like some kind of lighthouse for lonely housewives and gay men, I was listening to my iPod.

After catching up with The Archers (seriously, Pip Archer is really doing my head in, and I feel that Joe was unfairly dismissed from the shop. Speaking of which you can follow them, and me, on twitter @FizzArcher/@Pip_Archer, @MaliciousA, ) I began listening to The Nerdist podcast. Usually, I have about four or five of these stacked up, as they are about an hour long.

This episode was with some guy named Scott Sigler. He's an author and seems pretty OK. if you type his name into iTunes, or go to http://www.podiobooks.com you can download his audio books for free. Which I am doing now. They will probably be shit, but hey, it's free. And listen to The Nerdist podcast, on occasion it is quite funny. Like Adam Savage from Mythbusters doing a stand up comedy set.

Hornets? Oooh, nasty business, don't want to be stung by one of those buggers.
I quite literally dug up a hornet's nest when I was a kid (by mistake, when clearing the weeds out of my dad's garden, when we'd just moved in). I couldn't believe the sheer malevolence and persistence of the fearsome insect that emerged. Talk about pissed off.

Ironically, I have been repeating this very same act on a regular basis in adulthood, albeit in only a metaphorical sense. Some people never learn, eh. :D

I've allocated much of time time today to skulking, being maudlin and humming tuneless songs, so it'll probably get done next week. Also, the flowers on have just come out.

But I've booked the car in for an MOT on Tuesday, and cancelled the car insurance, so I need to find out how to get car insurance for a day.

The biggest problem is that they fly at night unlike other pests. So they come in through open windows.

Although there was a pest expert man on the radio in the week who said actually he'd rather be stung by a hornet than a horse fly. I've still got a scab on my arm from 4 weeks ago where I got bitten by one of those buggers.
