Sky called earlier (whilst I was making a curry which, in the event, turned out to be disappointing), and now I have 1.6Mb/s and she's raised the maximum line speed to 2.5. Which is nice.

Horrible event. I had to walk home from town. And then spent the rest of the night in the local pub being fed free alcohol and food by the council as it 'hit' my street, although the worst damage anyone in our street suffered was a bent aerial. However my friend who lived a couple of streets away was in the shower when the bathroom window, and nearly everything in the bathroom was sucked out.

Also, a month or so later, having gone to see Mr Scruff at the custard factory and taking a lot of (paracetemol - legal ed) we got dropped by the taxi at a friends house at 6am, but they weren't in. Walked through the backstreets at daybreak in a somewhat confused state, having forgotten all about what had happened a few weeks earlier, and being exceptionally confused by all the half destroyed buildings. Closest I'll ever get to feeling like it was '28 days later'.

I just logged into the office and had cause to reset the router. I needed a quick and messy way of resetting a bad VNC session as trying to get someone to reset the Mac actually resulting in them turning the PC next to it on instead. Doh!

Anyway, the router was reporting the office is now ADSL2+. Not that much improvement, just 11 meg down and 300 up. I need more up if anything, the down is fine.

Yeah, our current connection has more up than down, which is a wonderful thing. Might be worth giving them a ring and explaining that to them, you never know what they could do.

Frustratingly, all the recipes for making grits consists of "boil water, add packet to water, wait".

To make it from scratch, I need to boil corn kernels in drain cleaner, then wash it and boil it again.

I have recently decided to give contact lenses another go. Last Saturday however, the one in my left eye started to get really, really sore, so I eventually had to admit defeat and take the bugger out. It's been fine ever since, except today, where it's really sore again. Obviously I've taken the lens out now, but it's still hurting like a bastard, I can barely keep the eye open and I have tears running down my face.

Maybe it's time to accept that the universe wants me to be a speccy four-eyes?

Yup, that's the easy way. Yank friend gave me a whole load of packets last year: I made grits for Christmas day breakfast as a result, but put too much water in so they went soggy. I ate loads on holiday.

I'm a regular WotRer - coincidentally, a long meet in Cornwall with them being the reason I wasn't here to correct your scandalous lies before.

I did that broadband checker; no-one on DSL above 10mb.

My 18mb O2 line appears to be a freak anomaly. I look forward to adding it to assert my masculinity on the area.

Hmm, in the name of SCIENCE we should all ring Mr Ali with increasingly terrifying made-up problems and see what he suggests. We'll start with "I have an ingrowing toenail" and move right up to "I'm handcuffed in a room with a bomb and the timer is on 3 minutes and counting down".

I had a similar experience. Contact lenses fine for about six months then suddenly any attempt to put them in hurt like hell, so I went back to glasses. Unfortunately my ears and nose had got used to not having bits of metal and plastic balanced on them and glasses soon became almost as painful. In the end, laser correction was the only option.

Why on earth move into somewhere and think "I only want to live here for 2 years." instead of making it Home, smearing your fæces over the walls and howling on the roof?

Being at home all day (as I am, at present) and doing the "find gainful employment" things gets a bit dull, to say the very least. It'd drive me around the bend, and solely doing that, then playing the xbox for three hours would really drive me into the depths of despair, as I don't find that to be a rewarding way to spend my time

So I've taken to my version of gardening. This involves at least an hour listening to my podcasts whilst doing the weeding, trimming bushes, removing the climbing plants from the fences, and planting things, as come the morning, I can look out of the window and feel a sense of achievement and that I've done something constructive and useful. it's pretty low level stuff, but I quite enjoy it.

I'm moving the hostas tomorrow, promise, as I've got some space now, there's fuckloads of bindweed in the garden which I'm waging a constant war against.

The plan that by now I'd be driving a red Ferrari 599 down the Cote d'Azur whilst a nineteen year old blonde gave me a blowjob didn't really work out. That, and the global economic downturn and not working for two years.

Now, hopefully, in the next twelve months, I'll get a job and sell MaliTowers and have moved into MaliCastle. The Ferrari can wait.

If you want to be very confused , you can be now for free !

Primer can be streamed directly from google video

http://io9.com/5597187/watch-one-of-the ... ree-online

Quote:
Shane Carruth, writer and director of the lo-fi scifi flick Primer, has uploaded the entire film to Google Video so you can watch it for free. If you liked the time-twists of Inception, you'll love Primer - it's even crazier.

Carruth wrote, directed and starred in this understated, weird movie that came out in 2004. It's the most realistic depiction of time travel you're ever likely to see, and it leads to a temporal paradox that gets more interesting the more you think about it.
