You are both officially rubbish. Booking something two years in advance is inexcusable.

Actually, the last time we went to the beer festival was 2008, so it's 5 years in advance! We couldn't go in 2009 because of our honeymoon, 2010 & 2011 because of the cottage, 2012 we had tickets for a show (and a family member died that weekend, so we wouldn't have gone to the cottage even if we'd been free), so I think we're due a visit in 2013. :)

sexy time with myp will take 90 SecondsWhat are you going to do with the other 14 days. Eh?

Feex for honeymoon.

We currently have 18 people interested (including Other Dave).

Are all still interested? Is anyone else?

That would, just, fit into the main cottage. Only three couples would get double beds (out of four... five if you count Grim/Cras), and each twin room would have two occupants. And if anyone else wants to come they would need to either share a room with a couple, or find a sofa or inflatable mattress.

Alternatively, we go with both cottages, but at increased expense, but greater flexibility and comfort.

We've already got the 14th to the 18th of October booked off, so it should be happening then.

Any idea of the potential one cottage / two cottage costs?

Planned dates are 11-14 October.

I assume Russ booked the week afterwards off, to recuperate.

Bummer, That's not in the 2 weeks I'll be in the country. Maybe next year.

In the region of 1500/2500.

So, really, booking just the one is obviously preferable in terms of cost. But less preferable if more lovely people want to come, and we can't fit them in.

So £85 each for 1 cottage, with no real chance of it getting any cheaper as extras can't really come.
or £140 each for 2 cottages, with the chance of it getting cheaper if extras come, plus being more space and comfier.

Hmmm....

I'd be happy with the £140, but I wouldn't want to choose that option if it would stop people being able to come.

Does the one cottage only just fit in the people that have declared in? It would be a good idea for anyone newly declaring themselves in or out to do so now.

I made a graph. I like graphs. I've taken as gospel's Curio's figure of 18 being the tipping point of needing the second cottage; that can be fuzzy, depending on how many couples come, though.

At 18 people, it's £83 per person. If we then rent the second cottage too, you don't get back down to £83/person until you get up to 30 people (which I think is both cottages as full as it gets, might even be more people than fit.)

I'm a maybe for this, incidentally.

Ditto, would rather not have to squish people in, and it's nice to have the whole place to ourselves. We did use them both last year, even if the little one wasn't full. But if the extra cost is going to stop people coming then that would suck

Sadly I'm in NO position to sub, but will come up with the "two cottages" person amount (hopefully without having to borrow it!). If we get more people then it'll be less than the £140, so get confirming you fence sitting peeps!!

£140pp is quite high for the few nights, but as long as we have decent notice then we will be able to save it up. The price will only come down from there. My only worry is that it will mean that fewer people do come.

Is it at all possible to book the one cottage, start collecting subs and then see where we are in a week with a view to book the second, or does it work out cheaper to book both cottages at once than to book the larger first and then add on the second?

I'd suggest starting to collect subs now either way, as we only risk losing the opportunity for booking a stay at all.

It's cheaper to book simultaneously. What I can do is book both, pay a deposit for both, and then cancel the second one if there is a lack of interest. That will mean a slightly higher cost than if we just went with the one, but a good compromise, I think.

The cost won't be 140pp. That's a worst case scenario based on only having enough for 1 cottage, no 'maybe' types coming, us roping in no new people, and everyone paying the same. If the cost becomes a genuine prohibitive factor for anyone then there several people who are willing to pay a little extra so everyone can attend.

So, I shall call the chap in the next 24 hours and book 'em.

You've just made me realise that I only have two days left for the rest of the year and I hadn't booked this yet! Bum. My working weekends lieu day policy is starting to look appealing...

Annoyingly, I suggested when I started on this shift that I could work overtime and earn hours for it instead of money. This was immediatly dismissed, as if I then used the hours to take a holiday, they would have to get someone else in on overtime to cover for me and that would cost them money. Which really makes no sense at all as if I hadn't taken hours for my overtime, they'd have paid me cash. The same amount of cash they'd have to pay the person covering me
